Paris, June 15 (DPA): Boeing sees a recovery of the aviation market by middle of next year, chief executive Scott Carson predicted Monday at the Paris Air Show.
But its not clear how steep the recovery will be, Carson warned at the world's largest aviation exhibition.
"Demand will be robust in the long-term," Scott Carson said in a press conference Monday, adding that "when the economy recovers, air passenger and cargo industry will profit".
The global financial crisis has badly affected the cargo sector of the aviation industry, which has plummeted between 40 and 50 percent.
Passenger traffic is more difficult to predict, Carson said. "Once we have reached rock-bottom, and more capital is available, we will have the chance to keep up our production rate."
In addition, a "new dynamic" from the suppliers' side is expected to arise in the longterm future. "Airbus will continue to be a strong competitor," Carson said.
In addition, five new competitors from China, Japan and Russia are emerging in the medium-range aircraft sector.
"We have to be even better than before to keep being the industry's leader," Carson concluded.
