Mangaluru, Aug 8: An incident of throwing the carcass of a cow to the Netravati river came to light on the evening of Wednesday, August 7 at Uliya of Ullal city municipality. This incident led to a tense situation in the area. The Uliya locals brought the carcass that was floating in the Netravati river, using a JCB machine, to the office of Ullal city municipal council and held a protest.

Carcass of a dead cow of large size was floating in the Netravati river near the house of Gurikara of Ullala Uliya temple Rajesh. When the inmates of the house got the foul smell from the dead carcass of the cow, they informed the matter to the officers of Ullal city municipal council and also asked them to bring the carcass to the bank of the river. The Ullal city municipal council officials, who arrived on the spot, said that it is not possible to bring the carcass of the cow from the river and suggested to push the carcass to a far off area in the river.

The citizens of Ullal Uliya locality got irked by the attitude of the Ullal city municipal council officials and took them to task. Late, the locals of Uliya lifted the carcass of the cow through a JCB and took it to the office of the municipality and held a protest.

Addressing the protesters, Gurikar of the Uliya temple, Rajesh said, "Uliya, which is inhabited by many people is very close to the banks of Netravati river. A constant attempt to pollute the water of the river is being done by the residents, who live on one particular side of the bank. We have complained about the same to the city municipal council as well as the local MLA. However, the issue is not resolved till now. A house that is connected to the river is converted into a
slaughterhouse. The cattle are being slaughtered in the said house during the early morning time and the waste is thrown directly into the Netravati river. A system is made, whereby the waste from the illegal slaughterhouse goes directly to the river.

"Though a complaint is filed, along with the video of the same, there is no response from the administration. This cow, that was brought for slaughter had died before it was slaughtered. So the people of the slaughterhouse have thrown the same to the river straightaway. The locals are already affected with contagious diseases. There is a possibility of increase of the intensity of the diseases in coming time. In addition, it is condemnable that such acts are being carried out near the Uliya temple, which is revered as a spot of miracles. We will continue to hold severe protest in coming days, if the issue is not resolved," said Gurikar Rajesh.

Suresh Koppala, Dev Kishan and Kamalaksha Manjanakudru were present during the protest.

Police shuld question Rajesh who knows the story behind the dead cow. May be he was planning to sell it to some one and it died and Rajesh is the one who threw the carcas in the river and doing drama now. Police should go deep into the issue and teach good lesson to the culprits whoever they may be. Rajesh is acting to be innocent. But he cant hide the truth.
