Mumbai, Aug 29: On Tuesday, a customs officer was arrested by CBI for taking a bribe of Rs 10,000. The officer tried to extort the money while working on the duty drawback section in the cargo section of customs.

The accused has been identified as S S Jha who worked in the air cargo section of Mumbai airport.

The man who filed the complaint against Jha stated that the officer had originally asked him to pay Rs 20,000. The reason for the same was, the complainant had an IEC code alert, applied by the customs hindering him to export his consignment. To revoke the alert, Jha had demanded a bribe, which came down to Rs 10,000 after negotiation.

It was not the first time, earlier Jha had taken a bribe of Rs 5,000 from the same complainant for the temporary removal of the alert.
