Mumbai, Aug 30: Mohammed Arshad Mohammed Kalim Siddique, a builder based out of Andheri, approached the Bombay High Court accusing Mumbai's Police Commissioner Sanjay Barve of threatening and harassing him. Siddique, in his petition that was filed through advocate Gunratna Sadavarte, said Barve had purchased two flats from him and now is pressurising him to buy the same flat at higher price.
As reported in Mumbai Mirror Siddique said, "The police chief is misusing his post and besides cheating, he has also threatened me." As per the petition filed by Siddique, Barve contacted the builder through his friend in 2014, to purchase two flats in the under-construction building at Jogeshwari Majaswadi.
In 2015, the builder sold two flats to Barve and his wife Sharmila at the cost of Rs 1.35 crore. Though the flats were given below market rates, the top cop refused to pay the GST, therefore, the builder had to pay the amount. However, in December 2018, Barve said that he needed money and wanted to sell the two flats. Later, the petition claims, the cop forced the builder to buy those flats. After initial hesitation, Siddique agreed to take those flats at the same rate and paid Rs 1.21 crore to them. However, Barve and his wife avoided signing the agreement and demanded Rs 2.75 crore. The builder alleged that Barve misused his post and sent police personnel to his office to create a ruckus and intimidate him. "The officer is harassing me by threatening to implicate me in false cases," he said.
Siddique has appealed to the High Court to direct the department to take action and hand over the case to the CBI. The judge asked the public prosecutor to put forth their arguments on September 4.
