Bengaluru: Entering one-way traffic roads may attract murder attempt provisions

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SP)

Bengaluru, Sep 6: Considering the bad habit of drivers of lorries, buses and other heavy vehicles of entering one-way roads and blocking traffic to the detriment of road users, the police department is mulling a proposal to invoke tougher legal provisions to discourage such offenders.

The city police commissionerate is thinking of registering murder attempt cases against drivers of heavy vehicles entering one-way roads under section 307of Indian Penal Code. City police commissioner, Bhaskar Rao, issued this warning. He gave this information when speaking at the media interaction arranged on Thursday at the city traffic management centre.

He noted that the drivers are aware that they are violating rules by moving on the opposite direction in one-way road. He noted that these vehicles not only hinder traffic but also give rise to accidents often. Therefore, he explained, instruction to register cases under murder attempt provision under these circumstances would be issued, after holding discussions with legal experts and senior officials.

Bhaskar Rao informed that on the first day of enforcing the enhanced fines for traffic violations, 2,978 cases were registered and Rs 30 lac by way of fine was recovered by the traffic police.

A laudable move by the department. Penalising the offenders who endanger the lives of others would surely streamline the traffic and keep errant drivers at bay.

Good Move. Please ensure you give public people proper roads, with proper and visible road traffic signs. Whom will Police Dept impose fine for bad roads, no traffic signs, etc.
So lack of facilities, lack of good roads, foot path for pedestrians, lack of visible, properly placed signs, lack of Police Personnel sincerity ( Sorry about this last point ) etc - who will be fined? Please make sure.

You need to start somewhere and this is a small step in a right direction. There should be some discipline in driving , safety of other drivers and pedestrians.. People are driving in opposite direction and blocking the vehicles coming in the correct side of the road without any shame and fear thinking that it is their birth right.

    Whole heartedly support this initiative.

Bengaluru police chief must also write to govt on bad roads and get it repaired not simply passing the guidelines to public.

Start your campaign from RTO where they issue Driving Licenses without even bothering to know if the applicant is thoroughly skilled to drive any vehicle.
Also start checking the driving schools where they just offer only 10 or 20 classes to get a driving licenses.
For both above cases, only Money matters and the one who obtained driving license is ought to commit traffic offenses.

If the no entry sign is missing or invisible, it should attract murder attempt provisions against the police.

Please ask your cops to be at the entry point banning the entry instead of slyly hiding at the corner to meet the target and earn something in the bargain.

If there is clear sign at entry then why should a cop be at entry point? You are supposed to read and understand meaning of different road sign when you apply for DL.
We always blame Govt and cops but do we have respect for other drivers on road when driving?

They are talking about highways where entire roads are bifurcated. People drive in the wrong direction to save taking a long u turn.
