Kadaba, Sep 6: The body of a high school student was found inside a percolation pit by the side of the government PU college at Kaniyoor in the taluk on Thursday September 5 night. The deceased has been identified as Gautham (15), a tenth standard student of the said institution.

Gautham was the son of Laxman Gowda from Bommolike in Charvaka village. It is guessed that he would have slipped and drowned when he got down into the pit to take bath.

The family members were worried as the boy had not returned his home after school on Thursday. The school had observed Teachers Day on Thursday, and a function to inaugurate students union was also held till 3.30 pm. During this period, the student would have come out of the school and got into the pit, it is believed.

During the search launched by his family and close ones, trousers, shirt and footwear of the boy were found near the pit. The Bellare police were immediately informed. After the police arrived, a local got into the water and searched. He found the mortal remains of the body with only the underwear on. One of his eyes was found to have suffered damage.

Gautham was a brilliant student hailing from a poor family. As a wrist watch was found at the spot, the people presume that he would have been accompanied by some other students and they would have fled after turning panicky over his drowning. Bellare police are investigating.
