Panaji, Sep 9: In an innovative step to promote regional folk tales among school kids, Samagra Shiksha, an integrated scheme for school education, has advised Goa education officials collaborate with the state council of educational research and training (SCERT) and prepare local books for the state’s libraries.
Goa education secretary Nila Mohanan attended the Samagra Shiksha meeting, a programme run by the Union ministry for human resource development, held in New Delhi this July. In the meeting, the minutes state, "Children should have complete freedom to choose books for themselves and read from a range of attractively-displayed books, Children should be given the responsibility of maintaining books in the reading corner and its usage."
"States and UTs may also develop their library books including comics and illustrated books through SCERTs and publish them for use as library books. States can have their folk tale series of books to promote regional cultural heritage. No newspaper and magazines can be purchased from the library grant," it further states.
