Mangalore, Aug 5: Fishermen took to fishing with joy on Wednesday August 5, after the ban that began in mid-June was relaxed.

They went to sea in hopes of returning with a plentiful catch.

The Fisheries Bunder at Old Port was buzzing with activity as fishermen and other workers lowered boats into the sea and stocked them with ice to help keep the catch fresh.

The ban was to be in effect till Monday August 10, but the green signal from the fisheries department helped the fishermen return to the sea early.

The district administration bans fishing during the monsoon with the fisheries department implementing the ban in an effort to help the fish breed undisturbed.

The boats which were repaired and given a new coat of paint during the ban period looked spanking new.
