Doha: ‘Last academic year’ message from school causes anxiety in parents

Doha, Oct 31: The parents and students of Doha Modern Indian School (DMIS) are in shock as the school management has sent a text message saying that 2019-20 will be the last academic year of the school, reports Gulf Times.

The school management has requested the parents of the students studying in DMIS to look for seats in other schools for the academic year 2020-21.

The message sent by the school management of DMIS says, "Dear parent, we are constrained to inform you that due to unavoidable reasons, the last academic year of the school will be 2019-20. You are requested to ensure seats for your kids in other schools in Qatar for the academic year 2020-21. However, you will be informed in the coming days of any development in this regard. We are extremely sorry for the inconvenience caused to you and this message is sent to you as advance intimation--DMIS."

The principal of the school could not be contacted for confirming the veracity of the message sent by the school. According to some inside sources, there are some issues in the administration of the institution and discussions are being held to resolve them. The parents of the students studying in this school are shocked and worried and they are trying to gather more information through social media. Some have even asked the Indian Embassy in Doha to intervene in the matter.

One of the parents said, "It is becoming extremely difficult in recent years to get the children admitted into Indian schools in Qatar. It is not easy to get admissions in others schools for so many students of this school at a go. We pray that the issue will be resolved. Otherwise, it will be a nightmare for us."

"We are utterly confused with the future of the students, especially those who are studying in ninth and eleventh grades as they are already registered for the examinations with Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and are bound to answer the examinations from the same school. If DMIS shuts the doors, it will be a very tough situation for its students. The management of the school should be more responsible in its decision," said one more disgruntled parent.

If the Management fails to arrive at a consensus, then the Government should take over the school and manage it with the existing staff. The future of the students should be protected.
