Mangaluru: Cyclone weakens, skips Karnataka coast - Moving towards Oman

Mangaluru, Nov 2: The cyclone that was expected to wreak havoc in coastal Karnataka after it started moving from Arabian Sea, Lakshadweep, has now been moving in the direction of northwest. As such, Karnataka coast luckily has escaped from its fury.

Compared to the previous two days, coastal districts of Karnataka received less rain on Friday. The city experienced sunny weather on Friday and almost all other areas in the coast reported far less rainfall.

As per an assessment on Thursday, the cyclone was moving towards coastal Karnataka and heavy rain was expected in the coast. Yellow alert had been sounded and fishermen were advised against venturing into the sea. But the officials of meteorological department have since said that the cyclone has become weaker and is moving towards Oman.

The meteorological department has said that some areas of coastal Karnataka might get some rainfall during the next two days. Waves will be strong and wind with a velocity of 50 to 60 km per hour may blow. The fishermen have been asked not to undertake fishing.

Udupi district experienced rainfall at some places late night on Thursday. On Friday, sunny and cloudy weather were experienced one after the other.
