Mangalore, Sep 2: A police constable attached to Bajpe police station, named Abdul Jabbar K, has alleged that Gopalakrishna Bhat, a traffic(west) sub-inspector(SI) of police behaved inhumanly with him and dragged him out of a bus he was travelling in, on the evening of Monday August 31.
Jabbar, who has got himself admitted into Mangala Hospital in the city, has requested the higher authorities in the department, to ensure that justice is done in the case. Jabbar said that SI Gopalakrishna had approached him after sensing that the tide was turning against him and requested him to forget what had happened. "Even after I introduced myself and showed my identity card, the SI displayed haughty behaviour and exhibited scorn towards me and my family. He insulted me in front of the general public and talked lightly of my religious affiliation. Forgiving him is not an option before me now. If the superintendent of police fails to provide justice to me, I will approach the court," Jabbar said.
Jabbar, who lives with his wife and two kids in Vamajoor, has been working in Bajpe police station since over six years and had recently won awards from the inspector general of police for his contribution in solving two old cases.
Jabbar said that he had asked his wife to come to the clinic of Dr Anant Pai near Jyothi Circle for consultion about his child's illness. He explained that he was going home in the company of his wife and her elder sister, when the incident happened. "I gave my seat to a lady and sat on the iron rod adjacent to the driver's seat. Gopalakrishna barged into the bus and dragged me out by holding my collar. Even after I identified myself, he abused me in addition to my wife and sister-in-law, who had followed me. He abused my religion, snatched away my mobile phone and ID card and threatened to properly handle me," Jabbar explained.
Jabbar said, he was prepared to face legal action as necessary, if he had committed any offence, but was now determined to get justice for the atrocities, abuse of religion, using filthy language about his parents and insulting him in public.
Superintendent of police, Dr Subrahmanyeshwar Rao, said that he has sought a report from Bajpe sub-inspector of police on this incident and that action would be taken against the guilty, without fear or favour. It is learnt, Kadri police inspector Niranjan Raj Aras has been entrusted with the task of investigating the case, as the incident occurred within the jurisdiction of this police station.
