Mangalore, Sep 7: Late night on Saturday September 5, a woman was killed with the help of a sharp wooden piece, while her son was beaten up. A man named Ravi, who is accused of committing the murder, has been arrested.

The victim has been identified as Uttamma alias Yellavva (29). Her son, Yellappa (7) was injured in the incident. It is said that, the woman lost her life due to a deep injury caused at the temple portion with the wooden piece.

Ravi (25), a lorry cleaner, who lived with her, reportedly killed her. She was living in a small hutment near Bykmapady Industrial Area, after coming to the city about nine months back. She had got a son from her marriage, but after her husband died due to illness, she came to the city along with her son. Since then, she had been living with Ravi.

It is said, Ravi was forcing her to send her son Yellappa to school, but Yellamma was adamant not to do so. The argument that began between them on this issue seems to have aggravated, after which Yellamma left home to go to her native place at around 1 am on Sunday and was waiting at Kudumboor bus stand near her residence, when Ravi, who was drunk then, in a fit of rage, hit both the mother and son with a wooden piece, before fleeing.  Hearing the shrieks of the two, a watchman of an industrial unit called the policemen.

Yellappa has been admitted into hospital. Ravi was found by the policemen on Sunday after an intensive search, and he reportedly, has confessed to the crime.

Where are our BDs, Rama Sena soldiers and moral police gone?. Their timely intervention could have saved the illegal relationship and the life of the woman. Or is it O.K. Would any of their front leaders now come forward and adopt the child!
