Mangaluru: Violence during anti-CAA protest 'pre-planned'? Police release footage

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangaluru (EP)

Mangaluru, Dec 24: The Mangaluru police have released CCTV footages of stone-pelting in the recent protests against Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), raising suspicions of the violence being 'pre-planned'.

The stone-pelting and damages to public property are clearly visible in the footage and photos released by the police. The protests that began peacefully took an ugly turn in the afternoon of December 19. The protesters pelted stones and burnt tyres, and police resorted to lathi-charge, use of tear gas shells, and opened fire, resulting in the death of two persons.

Police who have released photos and videos have requested for information including the address of the miscreants. They have announced that the details of the informants will be kept confidential. Some protesters have covered their faces with cloth and broken CCTVs. In some videos, people are seen changing the direction of the CCTV camera so that the misdeeds of miscreants may not be recorded, thereby evoking suspicions of whether the violence was 'pre-planned'.

It is also claimed that sacks filled with stones were stored on a goods auto. A video purportedly shows protesters picking stones from the sacks and pelting them.

Attempts to enter gun shop: Police are investigating the incident in which the protesters who indulged in violence had attempted to enter a shop selling guns, bullets and gun powder at Golikatta bazar. The attempts failed at the last minute as per sources.

The gun shop is situated just about 150 meters away from Bunder police station. The accused protesters had broken the wooden door and tried the break open the shutter of the shop. The destruction was averted as police vehicle reached the spot in the nick of time.

The Mangaluru police have posted the videos and photos of the protest related violence on their Facebook page. In response several netizens also posted videos and photos, including some showing cops allegedly harassing citizens on the day of the protest as well as during the subsequent curfew. Some videos however show cops helping citizens reach their homes safely in the midst of the violence.

Police have enough power to handle the situation and they should bring the mastermind of these violence in Mangalore to the court of law. No matter whether he is a MP, MLA and ordinary citizen. whoever take Law and order in their hands in India should be tried in a court of law as it's against humanity. Police have given befitting reply to the protestors, nothing wrong in it.
    Jai Hind.

I have seen the original video of the CCTV footage and available on social media. The goods auto driver transporting jelly foir a construction site was coming from the police side and when he look at the protesters pelting stone he stop the auto at side and get down and walk the footage has been deleted from 16:43:21 to 16:45:16 in between this two minitues time you can see the police personals walking along with the auto in the same direction of the auto has come, it shows that the auto has passed through the police and the driver is unaware of the protest. one protestor first take one jelly from the auto and later he takes full bag, if it is prepalnned auto will not come from police side and not stop at the point where police personals are standing. and before they starts using teh stone during this two minitues time you can see police personals passing from the same auto, its nothing but to malign the protetsors that its prepalnned stone pelting. I request people to look in to the full video avalibale on social media before comment.

Why were they wearing scarves covering their faces (like women) if it was not pre-planned?

All these videos shows protesters in wrong side but we should not support them. However there are several video showing police laati charging on protester without stone or anything..

police should be prepared for all actions that is the reason why police is.... There are several means to control attacks... Tear gas or shoot below the knee.

God is Great look how truth revealed . Hooligans would have vandalised the public property ,brought stones in auto and started pelting stones and even rotated the CCTV , wore mask in face and started pelting stones . Hooligans taught they can create rukus and fear in city But really hats off to the police and Government for taking action and preventing much more incident from happening .Also thanks to all policemen who controlled the voilence and brought the situation back to normal just in few hours . To all those people who are supporting these hooligans ,just think during vandalisim if any property of yours is been destroyed how you people feel . Well done police again .

Just tear gas or water canon would have been much sufficient to disperse this crowd.

    Why firing?

If u look carefully with broad mind think how the system works in dangerous situations, throughout the world in most countries when protesting goes out of control the last resort is to fire, check the videos of recent honk Kong protest the police immediately start firing. In US if a person starts protesting with weapons in hand they immediately shoot him dead that's why there they don't protest with weapons even stone is considered as a weapon.

whatever has happened in this video is really bad and shameful. It seems this was preplanned as an autorickshaw can be seen bringing bags of jelly stones.

But I must say that the behaviour of police with the general public during curfew was equally bad. They were just beating with lathis people without inquiring even the reason. One of my friend, who has had a heart operation was beaten on the back after he was coming out of Fr Muller's hospital, where he had gone to get his relative admitted to the hospital.

Mostly Kannada speaking ghatta police behaviour was really bad. Our local tulu speaking were somewhat okay

I think this was not a part of anti-CAA bill at all.
The KFD PFIs took advantage of the situation. They heard the slip of tongue by our MLA Khadar. They tried two birds in one shot. One side they wanted to portray a negative image to Khadar by giving false impression that the violence started because of Khadar's speach, other side they gave a violent turn to the otherwise peaceful anti-CAA protest. Ultimately causing the loss of two lives.
Police should identify and book all the culprits.
