Gurugram, Jan 22 (IANS): The Gurugram Police crime branch have busted a unit making fake edible oil in the Bilaspur area and arrested its owner for alleged involvement in adulteration and illegal labelling of well-known brands for supplying adulterated refined oil in the market, according to an announcement here on Wednesday.

Gurugram Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Preet Pal Singh Sangwan said that the accused, identified as Yogendra Singh, has been involves in this illegal business for five years. He was arrested following a raid in his factory.

The raiding team have also seized 89 packs of Fortune brand mustard oil , large number of Fortune company monograms, plastic rappers, bottles, bottle caps, four mixing machines, packing rolls, as well as a machine and a tractor from the unit.

"The accused used to mix Fortune brand refined oil and mustard oil with lower quality local oils and then pack these afresh in other rappers before selling in the local market," Sangwan said.

"We have sealed the units and samples have sent to the food and civil supply lab. It is a serious case of food adulteration and cheating using the name of a branded company," he added.

The accused is a resident of Tavru. He has been booked under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and under Section 103/4 of the Trade Mark Act.
