New Delhi, Oct 9: A city court Thursday extended the police remand of arrested Communist Party of India-Maoist (CPI-Maoist) leader Kobad Ghandy by seven days to enable police to interrogate him further.

Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Kaveri Baweja allowed Delhi Police's plea that they needed to interrogate Ghandy further and extended his police custody custody till Oct 15.

Police submitted that they needed more time to extract details of electronic evidence, which was missing, like the hard disk of the laptop recovered from the Maoist leader.

The 63-year-old London-educated Ghandy, arrested under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act for being a member of the banned terror organisation, was residing at a rented accommodation in south Delhi and allegedly working to set up a base for the Maoists in the capital.

He was arrested Sep 21 by the special cell of Delhi Police.

Ghandy claimed that he was suffering from prostate cancer and had cardiac problems. The court permitted him to be examined at the G.B.Pant and LNJP hospitals.
