Mentally Challenged Passenger Injures Dubai - Mangalore Flight Crew

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangalore (SP)

Mangalore, Oct 12: A mentally challenged passenger aboard the Air India Express flight from Dubai that arrived at the local airport on Sunday morning injured two of the flight crew by biting them during the flight.

Mohammed Ashraf (28) from Kinnimajal Atoor in Puttur taluk, is facing the charge of using his teeth to inflict injuries on two of the in-flight crew. Ashraf had gone to Dubai in the year 2007, on a four-year visa, to work there as car driver. Reportedly, he sought leave to visit his home on September 18, but was mentally disturbed as the same was not granted.

Ashraf, who boarded the Air India Express flight from Dubai that reaches here  at 6 am, suddenly turned violent half way through the flight. He reportedly injured the chief crew Kuyal Kalari and crew member, Nayana Purohit, by biting at their ears and hands. The crew members then tied him down to his seat. As soon as the flight arrived here, he was handed over to the policemen of Bajpe station. On a complaint filed by Sunil V Bhat representing Air India, the Bajpe policemen have registered a case.

The injured crew members however, returned by the same flight, it is learnt.

Nobody has the right to behave the way he behaved in the middle of the journey. It's very risky for everyone. Crew did the right thing. It's dissappointing to see how most of the people are blaming AI crew rather than his stupidity.

Come on guys why you’re are judging air India and its crews? I don’t know how the word mentally challenged suits to an individual I would prefer it as person with mental health issues it is doctors job to assess and certify that the passenger had or had no mental health issues, not yours unless you are qualified in that area and asked to assess . If you were not happy then you should not have travelled in air India. I don’t think any air India crew called on your cell phone and begged to travel in their air craft. be realistic

This news really a rubbish,  I know Mohammed Ashraf personally and he was not mentally challenged, at the same time he was very strong minded person, but only the problem was, when he was travelling he was badly suffering from Asthma, as of my knowledge he suppose to get the Medical Assistant from the Cabin Crew inside the flight, which is not provided to him on time, as a result all these DRAMA took place…HATS OFF to the Cabin Crew of AIE…..!!! Attention Please: The passengers of AIE are requested to take their medicines on time before boarding otherwise this scenario will repeat again with you….hahaha

Its shocking that people are making this fool a hero, whatever the outcome, he was a human being and not an animal to bite the two crew memeber, this is not the way to retalitate in the mid air, today someone bites next something more might happen, if he is not happy with the service etc, he should indulge in a bigger fight or hartal, like the MNS etc, not in the mid air, giving to the police was the right thing to do.

The Crew whatever service they provide are someone like one of us, if we are not happy we can show more anger at the airport and not the mid air, this passenger might be pretending to be a mentally challenged just to get away with a small punishment, the police should seriously look into the matter and a strict punishment should be given, if he's a normal person so this type of behaviour cannot be just ignored in the future

There is no end to the woes of AIE. There seems to be more disgruntled passengers than satisfied passengers in this route for AIE. Its a shame on part of AIE to hand over this person to the police. I am sure this person must have been intimidated by AIE staff on board. I am surprised at the way AIE crew tied him to the seat for his entire journey back home. Isn't there any management looking in to the quality of service that is provided on tis route.

Airport Medical Services may be able to provide valuaable assistance instead to handing over to police. This is the very shameful news for Air India Express.

Wow!!! a fabulous news indeed. Tit for tat type, literally .. surely, this guy must have been embarassed by Air India officials forcing him to retaliate. These are the sort of things waiting to happen. You gotta reap, just what you sow. Wait Air India Express, there is more in store.
