Relating to the investigation into an assault case, Yedapadav Harish had been arrested and brought to Bajpe police station at about 10 pm on Saturday. On this occasion, DySP Girish allegedly assaulted him in the guise of interrogation. On the same day, Harish was produced in front of a judge, at 12 am. At that time, Harish had submitted that he had been kicked by the DySP with his shoes and that his head had been banged to the wall. Harish also allelged that Girish had threatened the former with fixing him in a murder case and then eliminating him through an encounter.

The judge accordingly, had ordered medical examination of Harish. A person named Moodushedde Harish had filed a private complaint about the assault, in the court.

A criminal case has been registered against DySP Girish. He has been served with a show-cause notice. The Bajpe policemen have been asked to file a report on the assault incident. In the meanwhile, Harish is being treated at the district Wenlock Hospital in the city. Advoate P P Hegde had represented Harish in the court.

In the meanwhile, the Bajrang Dal activists have decided to hold a demonstration in front of the office of the district deputy commissioner here on the evening of Tuesday October 13, in protest against the above assault. The Dal district convener Sharan Pumpwell said that the police officer, who is in a responsible position, was not justified in physically assaulting Harish in the guise of inquiry. On the one hand a squad is formed to combat communal violence and on the other hand an officer is charged for acting on a bajrangdal activist. One can very well imagine how effectively this squad is going to function. It is true that police cross limits during interrogations.

But a Bajrangdal guy could do anything constructive to the society is again a huge doubt. Just because it involved a Bajrangdal activist the DySP is facing criminal case. This will send wrong signals to all state sponsored goons, boosting their morale to no end.

Hats off to DYSP Girish. He has done a great job. From this it is clear that the Govt supports the Bajrang Dal. When the police does the right thing, they get punished. The public should support Inspector Girish. We will pray that Inspector Girish get a clean chit and fools like Harish gets kicked and thrashed even more.
