Mangalore, Oct 17: People should be made aware of preventing osteoporosis as it is the growing medical problem in many developing countries said Fr Patrick Rodrigues, director, Fr Muller Medical Charitable Institutions.

He was inaugurating the Bone Mineral Density free check up camp on the hospital premises on Saturday October 17. Awareness on the use of bone nutrients in the diet, regular exercises can prevent osteoporosis, rather than consuming calcium tablets, he said.

Dr Edward L Nazareth, professor and head of orthopaedic surgery welcomed the gathering. Dr K Raghuveer Adiga, professor of orthopaedics proposed the vote of thanks.

Over 400 people have registered for the two-day camp to be held on Saturday October 17 and Sunday October 18. The free camp is organized to mark world osteoporosis day which falls on Tuesday October 20.

Osteoporosis awareness needs promotion. It is much easier/economical to detect & treat osteoporosis, than treat its complication- osteoporotic fractures. Congratulations to Edward Nazareth & Raghuveer Adiga!
