Mangaluru, Feb 7: Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) commissioner Ajith Kumar Hegde said, "Heavy fines will be imposed on those who fail to implement solid waste processing units in apartments.”

Addressing media here on Friday, February 7, Ajith Kumar Hegde said, “In the month of October 2019, we had urged people to install solid waste processing units within MCC limits. For the same, we had conducted a meeting and had urged to install the units by the end of 2019. We had also issued notice to all the apartments, in which few apartments have shown interest in installing the units while some other apartments, did not shown much of the interest in installing the units.

“Even while giving building licence, we had made compulsory the setting up of solid waste processing units, but builders and building associations have neglected the same and have not yet installed the units.

“Hence, as per the orders of National Green Tribunal under Solid Waste Management Rule 2016, we will impose heavy fines from February 10 on those who fail to install solid waste management units. In the beginning, we will impose fines up to Rs 25,000, second time offence will be Rs 50,000 and for the third time offence, criminal case will be registered.

“On July 3 last year, we had explained about the implementation of Solid Waste Management Rule 2016 to apartment associations, educational institutions, hotels, hostels, bar and restaurants, and marriage halls which fall under MCC limits. We had also demonstrated the working of units at those who had already installed them on September 27 last year,” he said.

Later, MCC commissioner Ajith Kumar, joint commissioner Santhosh visited Sai Prem Apartments at Mannagudda, Maurishka Palace at Kadri Kambala and Father Muller Hospital who have successfully installed solid waste management units in their premises.

I stand on LN Rego and you are said right.
We Mangaloreans already paying heavy tax and also Mescom is charging heavy bill.

We are already overburdened and again MCC is telling again solid waste management..MCC is collecting tax every year and they are adding Swatchha Bharat tax and again Indian govt is collecting tax for the same.where these money goes and who's pocket? Why MCC is collecting again swatch bharath tax? So before implimenting solid and liquid waste MCC should think about this and give a solution . Blindly targeting citizens is not at all accepted. Now time to protest against MCC and govt by public. Jai Hind.

Dear commissioner and authorities of MCC. By giving such statements you create more and more confusion among the Apt owners. In Mangalore you have issued notices to few apartments with the instruction to segregate wet and dry waste. Best part is even garbage and wast collection Agency and its workers are unaware how to collect it and how to place it?
You insist not to use Plastic, Have you given a thought how to place the Wet waste without using plastic ? where it should be placed in the apartment for collection, keeping the cleanliness in mind?
Do you have sealed Trucks or Containers for collecting wet waste / Garbage?
Now you have come up with Solid waste management proposal. Will you guarantee the standard of Higene after placing this unit
Will you assure prevention from health hazards?
