Bangalore, Nov 8: Within a month of the attack on the St Francis De Sales church at Hebbagodi in the outskirts of Banglaore, yet another church in the city – St Antony’s Church at Kavailbyrasandra – has been vandalized by unidentified miscreants.

The miscreants had probably broken open the doors of the newly built church past midnight. The main door was forcibly opened and the miscreants had obviously tried to steal the gold-plated chalice and two ciboriums kept in the tabernacle and also in the sacristy for keeping the blessed sacrament.

The tabernacle is broken open and the communion is thrown out and sprinkled all over. Two pix kept in the tabernacle and sacristy have been stolen. The miscreants had also broken open the dumb boxes kept inside the church to steal money.

Bangalore Archbishop Bernard Moras, who had inaugurated the newly built church on September 11 this year, visited the church early this morning and had also contacted the state home minister Dr V S Acharya, camping in Delhi in connection with the ongoing political crisis in the ruling BJP in the state.

The police have already visited the place and are carrying out investigation.

``The motive of the miscreants was obviously theft. The dumb boxes have been broken open. The gold-plated ciborium and chalice and other sacramental things were stolen. The blessed sacrament has been strewn all over the sacristy,’’ the Archbishop told Daijiworld.

"Though the monetary loss in the theft may not be much, the desecration of the blessed sacrament is a serious matter,’’ the Archbishop said pointing out that he was saddened at the sacrilege and also the damages to the church doors. ``They must have stolen the chalice and ciborium under the impression that they must be of gold. True, they are valuable to us more than gold. But what money can the thieves earn if they sell. We must pray to God so that the miscreants do not continue such acts of vandalism,’’ he said.

It may be recalled that the Bajrang Dal and Sri Ram Sene activists had attacked churches and other places of worship in Mangalore, Udupi, Chikmagalur and other places including Bangalore during September-October last year. The state government had instituted a judicial inquiry under Justice B K Somashekar besides ordering COD probe into the incident. An investigation by the rechristened CID wing had been ordered by the government following the recent attack against the Hebbagodi church.

With the chief minister B S Yeddyurappa and home minister as well as most of the BJP ministers camping in Delhi trying to resolve the dissident crisis, speculation is rife on whether the vandalism could be an act of the pro-Hindutva elements or forces inimical to the ruling establishment. The possibility of some local Congressmen trying to create problems for the ruling BJP government cannot be ruled out, according to sources familiar with such activities.

Centuries back, there were Crusaders. Today, there are RSS, Bhajrang Dals, Muthalics etc. But still, what was done by the Crusaders is far more evil than all these present deeds combined.

What a useless government. Yeddy cries for silly problems with Reddy what a pity on BJP. Time is up for start working thier own to tackle these attacks. Law will not take care these kind of repeated incidence. These are ignorant incidence are done by BJP or thier affiliated wings. They need to be thought a good lesson like other communities are handling them. That is the only solution.

When law is not taking care there is no other solutions left to tackle these moral police of religion. We need to form these kind of policing too to teach a great lesson once and for all.Christian community is very strong in education, finance and inteligence. We don't lack anything. Only we wait and pray for peace. Tha't the only difference with us comparing others.

It has become way of life in Karnataka now. We have to be proactive while electing the Governments and always support Secular parties. Better late than never. We have to work hard to see that Secular Parties are in Power.

Government of Karnataka itself is shaking. Ministers are busy saving their chairs. Where is the time for security of Minorities. This is the lesson for us to get united keeping aside minor differences and elect a secular government in the next Karnataka Assembly Election

“While we await the actual cause for the attack, I won't be suprised if the BJP and its associates start their hate propaganda afresh”…. Sameer KM, Mangalore Dear Mr.Sameer and others who blame the BJP government for the Church Robbery/Desecration attempt, perhaps a peep into the not so distant past might be helpful to notice the error in your judgement which in my opinion may be hasty.

A massive daytime attack took place on the Bishop’s Chapel (Bishop’s House-Codialbail) on May 5th 1958…… when BJP was not even in existence. A few years later some unknown people broke into the Valencia Church, smashed the Tarbenacle and stole away the Ciboriunm and Chalises spilling the Hosts near a coconut tree in the compound.

Sometime around those years, one night the compound wall of the St.Annes School / Convent was knocked down completely. Again there was no BJP in those days. Let the due process of law take its own course...the truth will come out hopefully in the near future.

Karnataka Government is busy with solving its own problems and so it has no time to solve the problems of its subjects. I think our Government has totally failed to bring harmony among the religious people. One side it tries to form peace commitees and on the other side it failed to controle the people who tries to bring disharmony among religions. It is clearly visible from the incidents like Church Attacks in 2008 and some Present incidents those take place in Colleges of Mangalore and Bhatkal.

Dear Mr Rajesh . This issue is all fired up because of the poitical things that are going on , to refresh your memory it all started on september 14 of 2008 ,in mangalore itself , now since the state goverment and the police did not take these incidents seriously , thieves/miscreants are still confidently continueing these inmorale activities , if strong measures where taken from day one , none of them would continue doing this .

This is not just stealing this is playing with our sentiments , provoking to lose our ming and burst like it happend last time . That is the only way for bjp to coverup things that are going around in the party , and make people focus on such things and win later with pity votes .

While we await the actual cause for the attack, I won't be suprised if the BJP and its associates start their hate propaganda afresh, now that their credibility is at rock bottom. After the Reddy-Yeddy episode, the BJP as a party now evokes disgust among most people in karnataka (all religions included) and the only way they can win elections or gain support now is to go back to the tried and tested method of deepening the communal divide. I fear that this is the tip of the iceberg, there could be many more to come

As clearly confirmed by Archbishop, the motive was theft. However, it gets a flavor of religious bigotry in the hands of dishonest reporters. What a sad state of affairs. I worry about my own family and friends if we keep blaming hindus for everything. When will we understand it?

Sad. Desecration of holy places and objects is despicable. In these times of religious bigotry and community disharmony, one should not have recourse to vandalism and give a chance for community flare up. Let good sense prevail and pray for peaceful co-existence. May God bring good out of evil.

I do not understand the need to blame any one in this situation as the report by itself shows that it was a clear cut robbery behind the entire episode. we in India now just want to blame another religion/Govt fr anything that goes wrong without any logical analysis of the situation or reports

It is yet again disheartening. Shame on them who continuously vandalize God’s House which is not only a direct attack on God Himself but also on those who believe in Him. It is a conscious agenda aimed at the religious minority who continually throw stones at people's faith. They are aware that it is no where a place to make quick bucks but rather a political vendetta to live with. Do we ask ourselves, why same vandalism does not very often take place in some other religions worshipping places ? Is it our too much preaching does not enough reaching.

Dear Miscreants I am very very sorry to hear this incident again. Please stop doing these kind of activities & create tension in the minds of minorities or in the societies. Let us all stand unite and give break to it instead of doing this. These kind of activities are completely stopped only when we start loving each other.
