Bangalore: Internet Based Contest for Rating top 20 Indian Films

Bangalore, Nov 13: An internet-based contest for rating the Top 20 Indian films that drew the audience in the past 96 years history of cinema in the country is being organized by the Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG), an instrumental agency involved in organising the International Film Festival of India at Goa.

ESG’s Chief Executive Officer Manoj Srivatsava told reporters on Thursday that details will be posted on a specially created website, www.t20ofindiancinema.com .

Avid film buffs can rate a wide range of films such as Mughal-e-Azam, Awara, Pyasa, Guide, Sholay, Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge, Chomana Dudi, Tabarana Kathe, Ghtashraddha, Pushpak, the Apu trilogy, Nayakan, Roja, Chandini Bar, Bhavni Bhavai, Saaransh and Hazaron Khwaishein Aisi and more , he said pointing out that the contest will go on till November 29.

The organisers have created two separate teams of 10 acclaimed directors and 10 film critics to give their opinions. The ratings received separately from the film buffs and the teams would be mixed and put in sealed covers. A panel of neutral judges would be asked to open the sealed covers on the night of November 29.

The 20 choices by the participant film buffs that match with that of the teams would be declared winners. The winners of the contest would be invited to Goa to attend the 40th International Film Festival of India as ESG guests, Srivastava said.

The teams comprises of film directors Madhu Bhandarkar, Vishal Bharadwaj, Rahul Dholakia, Gajendra Ahire (all from Mumbai), Nagesh Kuknoor (Hyderabad), Rituparno Gosh (Kolkata),Cheran (Chennai), Shymaprasad ( Thiruvanthapuram), P Sheshadri (Bangalore) and Mnaju Borah ( Guwahati) and film critics M C Raja (Kochi), M K Raghavendra (Bangalore), Raju Naik (Goa), Saibal Chatarjee, Utpal Borpujari (Delhi), Gowri Ramnarayan ( Chennai), Ashok Rane, Anupama Chopra (Mumbai) and Swapan Mullick ( Kolkata).

The president of the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce Jaimala said that the veteran film artiste Dev Anand was scheduled to address the press conference but he could not due to sudden indisposition.
