Mangalore, Nov 21: ‘Souharda Samavesha’, a meet of religious leaders was held at the Town Hall on Friday November 20, to stress the need for communal and religious harmony.
Speaking on the occasion, Vidyaprasanna Theertha Swami of Subrahmanya Math, said that human life is elevated when each one in the society lives in harmony.
“If there is any mistake by any person, there is no need to blame it on religion. So, every religion is great which does not tolerate violence”, he said.
Al-hajj Thoka Ahmed Musliyar, assistant Khaji, said that only a few people don’t know the values of our society which are blended with harmony.
Recalling the history of this area, he added, “Hindus and Hindu kings treated the Muslims as their brothers. Minor incidents may hurt the sentiments of religions due to some anti-social elements”.
Fr Ronnie Prabhu, director, Fatima Retreat House, said, “Humanity is more important than religion. Religion teaches to live in harmony and brotherhood. So, people need to think that there is no religion higher than humanity and this is the value of all holy books of all religions”.
Yerya Laxminarayana Alva, president, Dharmika Souharda Samiti, presided over the function and vice-president Dr C P Habiburahaman welcomed all. Member Mohammad Kunhi presented the keynote address.
