Mangalore, Nov 29: The Catholic Action League (CAL) of Bendoor celebrated its platinum jubilee function by honouring former office-bearers and with entertainment programmes on Sunday November 29 at St Sebastian Hall, St Sebastian Church premises.
The celebration was inaugurated by Bishop of Mangalore Diocese Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza.
Speaking on the occasion, he said that organizations like CAL have marked the importance of such associations everywhere with their service to society. “The remarkable service which is graced by God, has helped them continue the journey for 75 years”, he added.
Director of CAL and vicar Fr Peter S Noronha said that CAL has done a lot of things which will be memorable to people of the parish. “Their works were not related to a certain section and include religious, social, and cultural services”, he said.
Leslie Rego, well-known compere and Konkani activist, who is also a former president of CAL, was another guest of honour. In his address he admired CAL as an association and how it helped groom the talents of youngsters including himself.
Professor Alban Castalino, also a former office-bearer of CAL, and Leslie Rego were honoured at the function. Stephen Pinto, president of ICYM, was also present.
Former presidents, office-bearers, members, and the assistant director were also honoured at the programme as part of its platinum jubilee celebration. Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza released the ‘Platinum Jubilee Sovereign’ and the CD produced by ‘Bendoor Star’ Claud D’ Souza.
President Glen Rego welcomed all. Secretary Rooban Fernandes read the annual report and vice-president Zeena proposed the vote of thanks.
Formed in 1934, CAL is involved in social and cultural activities like blood donations, distribution of books to poor students, as well as cultural programmes like theatre.
A cultural programme with singing and dancing was held afterwards by members of CAL.
