Mangalore: KCCI Organizes Interactive Meet with FKCCI President J Crasta

Mangalore, Nov 30: An interactive meeting on ‘Issues and Challenges Before Trade and Industry in Dakshina Kannada District’ was organized with J Crasta, president, Federation of Karnataka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FKCCI), Bangalore, by the city chapter of Karnataka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), at Chamber Building, at 10.00 am on Monday November 30.
Crasta said that undivided Dakshina Kannada district served as the cradle of banking with four nationalized banks founded in the region which are today contributing to the financial growth of our country.
“The district has achieved significant progress in the education sector and the medical sector with major institutions catering to the needs of students from within the country and abroad”, he said.
“Although major BPOs and IT industries have set up their bases in the city and suburbs, the district is yet to realize the full potential of the tourism sector, labour intensive activities such as garments, toys, repacking, and specialized packing of commodities, cashewnut, arecanut and coconut-based products, trading in bulk imports, and re-exporting to smaller countries”, added Crasta.
“The potential of New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT) in Karnataka should be realized with light manufacturing units that turnout products for exports. The city airport also holds the potential for cargo movement and fast delivery of highly perishable flowers and sea food to the overseas market”, he said.
KCCI president Srinivas S Kamath, vice-president G G Mohandas Prabhu, secretary B Chandrakanth Rao, treasurer Latha R Kini and city-based Kanara Small Industries Association president K Jayaraj Pai, were present on the dais.
