Lancy Pinto Nayak Bags 'Daiji Dubai 2010' Award

Dubai, Dec 13: Konkani novelist, playwright and distinguished Konkani activist Lancy Pinto Nayak has been selected for the prestigious DAIJI DUBAI PUROSKAR 2010. The verdict was discussed and finalized based on the recommendations of the selection committee at the general body meeting of Daiji Dubai at Shezan Restaurant, Karama, Dubai, recently. The selection committee was headed by Dayan D’Souza, Stany Pinto Nirude and Dinesh Correa.
Lancy Pinto Nayak was born on December 13, 1955 in Kinnigoli, close to Mangalore city, but later on his family relocated to Kulshekar in Mangalore. His first story was published in the year 1972 in Mithr weekly. That was just the beginning of an eventful chronicle of literary achievements. He has written over 200 short stories, 10 novels, 33 Konkani stage plays/skits, 100 articles, poems, reviews and interviews. His novel ‘Cheddum’ was rewarded with the late Louis Mascarenhas Birth Centenary Award in 1989, ‘Pattim Golfak’ won the award from Konkani Bhasha Mandal Goa in 1989 and ‘Vidhov’ won 2 awards, Karnataka Sahitya Academy award and the Late Louis Mascarenhas Birth Centenary award in 1991. His popular drama ‘Airik Soirik’ won prizes from Kala Sampath Mangalore. In addition the same stage play was also awarded by Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy Award and Dr TMA Foundation book award in 1997.
The high-status Daiji Dubai Puroskar 2010 would be presented and bestowed to Lancy Pinto Nayak during Daiji Dubai annual day celebrations on April 9 2010, stated a media release from Daiji Dubai. Lancy Pinto Nayak will get the prestigious award comprising Rs 50,000 along with a citation and certificate of honour. Daiji Dubai is a forum of prominent and powerful group of Konkani writers based in Dubai.
A full-length comical Konkani Drama `Kasale Grachchar Saiba’, written by popular writer Stan Ageira and directed by the gifted Pradeep Barboza would be staged by Daiji Rangmandir artistes during the annual day.
