Liquor shops in Karnataka to remain shut till April 20

Bengaluru, Apr 14: The Excise commissioner in the state has informed that liquor shops in the state will continue to remain shut till April 20.

In a news release, he stated that liquor shops were directed in the previous order to be closed till April 14 midnight. However, the centre has decided to extend the lockdown and maintain social distancing in the country till May 3. The extension of the lockdown will be reviewed in certain places after April 20. Therefore, the department of Excise has decided to extend the order of keeping liquor shops closed in the state till April 20.

The Excise commissioner has also stated that all the liquor distilleries except those manufacturing alcohol based sanitisers will remain closed.

    Hmmm… Do you think that the alcohol ban will eliminate all family issues???
    Not really... In fact, as per the latest reports,  domestic violence has been increased ever since the lockdown, a time when alcohol is not available, isn't that contradicting?

    It is human nature to afford something forbidden.
    In my case, I'm a social drinker, the last I took alcohol was in the New Year eve, but when the liquor sales paused, my urge was to get one even though I didn't need it but just wanted it in my stock, the basic instinct effect!

    Those who want an alcohol ban, you don't understand what is social drinking & alcoholism. Everything is poison if you over-consume, let it be the rice, wheat, water or so-called  'Amrit' (elixir) could harm your health.
    When alcohol is banned, alcoholics will turn towards drugs, ganja, spurious alcohol, etc & some will start distilling themselves, many of them will become an anti-social element, socially rejected & ultimately ending up behind the bars, they & their family still have no escape, would that be better for you?

    Then, think about the huge impact on our economy when alcohol is prohibited. You know, the taxes on alcohol are more than 150% in most states in India, how many of you want to pay such a hefty amount of taxes to any product? These folks, they will never argue/dispute when govt. keep on hiking taxes on alcohol, they silently pay it & thereby poor end up spending huge money in alcohol. 

    So, my dear friends, don't blindly criticize everything you see, my advice to those cromulent crying for a complete alcohol ban if you don't want it, you just be quiet, then give the required medical attention to the person at your home who is alcoholic. I certainly agree that there is a group of people who overconsume alcohol & become a social nuisance, they must be handled by the police & their own family. An entire society needs not to suffer the mistake of a small percentage of alcoholics!

    We should all boycott these alcohol shops. The government thinks that they can start and stop alcohol whenever they please. Also the alcohol they offer is not worth the price. You can make your own alcohol at home at a fraction of the cost. People in Saudi and Kuwait have been making homemade alcohol for decades out of dates and grapes. Better we stop wasting money on these useless businesses that fund the government, who's only goal is to make the common man suffer.

    With strict rules on public consumption of alcohol (anybody found loitering under influence of heavenly juice and not just DND be fined/arrested) sale of alcohol must be thrown wide open. Alcohol sale that can only be consumed alone and at home only should be allowed.

    This will prevent several law and order problems related to anxiety and withdrawal symptoms making people do crazy stuff. Also, there will be sufficient funds available to fight COVID-19.

    Humans when stranded on a desert, go berserk for a drop of water.. Likewise readers comment reflects the absolute thirst for booze !!! There will be utter pandemonium, at wine shops and bars.. many will be drunk, will be seen on roadsides, when Bacchus the god of wine, makes his appearance on D day !!!!
