Bengaluru, Apr 18: Senior citizens and other vulnerable persons to disease should stay at home for the next three months, Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa has advised.

The Chief Minister, who held a high-level review meeting of the Corona Virus (COVID 19) situation in the State and the steps to be taken after April 20, said it was necessary to take the maximum possible precautions against the pandemic.

The meeting discussed the question of identifying containment zones and the activities to be permitted in non-containment zones.

“We decided to appoint Incident Commanders to each containment zone assisted by police and health officials,’’ the Chief Minister said.

Incident commanders being appointed

The Chief Minister said, “The Incident Commander will be responsible for containing crowd movement and providing basic amenities in these areas, and added, “The Incident Commander will have magisterial power.’’

In Buffer zones with a 3 km radius will be subjected to medical check-up.

Movement of two wheelers and goods vehicle will be allowed. Cars with passes are allowed. No more new passes will be issued. Liquor shops will remain closed till May 3.

Employees of IT, BT and other business activities should come to offices in hired buses, he said pointing out that the IT, BT employees should be encouraged to work from home.

At the maximum, the State Government would allow a third of the staff to attend their offices.

Yediyurappa said construction activities will be allowed to resume but workers should be allowed to stay at construction sites.

He made it clear that no more new shops will be allowed to open.

Malls, showrooms will remain closed

Malls and showrooms will, however, remain closed, he said.

The Chief Minister declared that inter-district travel is not allowed.

Ramanagar, Bengaluru Urban and Bengaluru rural district will be considered as one district only for movement of Industrial workers.

As much as 33 per cent workforce of Government Departments will be allowed to work and they should come in contract buses, which would be hired exclusively for them, he said.

The prohibitory orders clamped following the lockdown will be continued till May 3.

He made it clear that wearing masks will be mandatory and spitting in public places will be banned. The violators will be subjected to punishment and fines, he said.

Shriman mukhya mantriji, thank you for saying putting fine on those who spit on the road... Implement it as soon as possible... and make to pay the fine compulsory. The surrounding people immediately click the photos of the person who spits and hand over the details to police station... Or police are nearby pass it on immediately.... Ouuucchhhh! Disgusting!!

This would be the best time to stop comparing India with US. Do you see how US is overwhelmed with Covid 19 because of poor administration and careless citizens? They are protesting lock down by displaying guns around federal and state buildings. They have opened beaches at certain places and people have crowded there. Their churches are still open in some states and are considered essential service. During the beginning stages, youth went on a spring break (partying) and crowded in thousands. If that's not enough, their president Trump is using this time to chastise democrat governors and politicise this event and instigate his supporters in those states. A very huge number of people, especially old republicans believe that Covid 19 is a hoax.
Thankfully, India isn't like that. Even if people do neglect in some aspects, they do have some awareness about the severity of the disease. And for our population, the cases are low comparitively. My point isn't that bars or wine shops shouldn't be opened. My point is that we can make an argument for it, without comparing our country to a country that has failed miserably in controlling the course of the pandemic.
