Abu Dhabi, Apr 22: A direction was issued by the Federal Tax Authority extending the deadline of submitting VAT (Value Added Tax) returns and the payment of due tax for the tax period that ended on March 31, to May 28. This allows taxable people to fulfill their tax obligations without facing difficulties.
This decision was made due to the unforeseen precautionary measures taken by the UAE to curb the spread of COVID-19. The 24-hour restrictions imposed on the movement of vehicles and individuals coincided with the deadlines of filing the VAT returns, commented the FTA.
The directive instructed that VAT registrants having monthly tax periods are to submit their returns and settle the payable tax for the tax period from March 1 to 31, and those having quarterly tax periods, from January 1 to March 31.
The FTA has advised the tax payers to ensure that all the details included in their VAT returns is accurate, and to continue abiding by all the other tax obligations as usual. They further added that the extended deadline only applies to VAT returns for the tax periods that ended on March 31, and not any other tax period.
The FTA’s services are relied on a fully automated electronic system that allows registration, filing tax returns and the payment of due taxes from anywhere at any hour of the day.
