Bantwal, Apr 26: In the wake of increasing number of coronavirus cases in Dakshina Kannada, district in-charge minister Kota Srinivas Poojary on Sunday April 26 instructed the administration to take more stringent measures to enforce the lockdown if necessary.

He was addressing a district-level meeting of officials at Bantwal tourist guest house in the backdrop of rising number of coronavirus cases in Bantwal rural and town areas. MP Nalin Kumar Kateel was also present.

"There will be absolutely no relaxation in Bantwal till May 3. ASHA workers and health offcials should visit all the 92 houses in Bantwal Kasba hobli and 213 houses in Narikombu gram panchayat limits and submit reports. There will be no relaxation in lockdown in these areas," Poojary said.

"As many as 19 coronavirus cases have been reported in Dakshina Kannada, out of which 12 patients have recovered and been discharged from hospital. Two have died. Others are being closely monitored.

"Meanwhile, 198 staff and other personnel from First Neuro Hospital have been subjected to medical tests. Among these, reports of 49 persons have been received, out of which 48 have tested negative, and one positive," he added.

"The district administration is closely monitoring the situation with a view to control the spread of coronavirus. The public should not take anything lightly for any reason, and should voluntarily observe curfew. If necessary, the district administration will not hesitate to take strict action against violators," he said.

"Bantwal Kasba and areas within Narikombu gram panchayat limits have been sealed down. Special officers have been assigned and a 24/7 control room has been set up with a helpline number for the convenience of the people. Eleven officers have been deployed round the clock on duty in these areas. People can avail essential items while staying home. Teams have been formed to provide essential items, milk, newspapers, medicines, fruits, vegetables and meat as required by people, together with banking, gas cylinder supply and emergency services," Poojary informed.

"People should strictly follow the guidelines and orders issued by the government," he urged.

MP Nalin Kumar Kateel said, "Officials should do their duty with alertness and promptness. Issues and problems faced by migrant workers and the district at large should be handled efficiently and promptly."

MLA Rajesh Naik, deputy commissioner Sindhu B Rupesh, tahsildar Rashmi and others were present.

Sincere people are confused with the word relaxation. And moreover could see no much people are strictly following the lockdown. I can easily see poeple wandering in their 2 and 4 wheelers which inturn looks like normal day. Maximum poeple have obtained passes in name of their org or firm which doesn’t even belong under essentials. Why can’t it be thorough check before issuing the passes. To be precised its just been misused.

When lock down has failed sealing is resorted,
okay good but this won't help, instead seal only those areas where the real suspected infections were reported through available test kits which are not foolproof in first place.
Relaxation or exemptions for other shops & establishments in other areas where no such infections exist is the right way.
Good that essentials are provided at the living homes & places of sealed region, but what about availability of money with them without work all these days? Will govt. give it free of cost or to only those people who can afford them while letting others remain hungry?
Those people who have APL cards have to pay for gas, rice or anything they get from PDS, will the administration clarify about this?

What about other patients who were there during the old lady's time there as well as the visitors to the hospital. Out of 198 tested, only 49 results came. Why is that so?. What about others? Wouldn't a days delay be costly?

    Unfortunate things do happen..
Luckily, Dk administration has handled better than many other districts. Only point is that people need to cooperate here.. that is important matter...
Success depends on entire mass and not just administration

    Good move.
Please educate urban as well as village people regarding symptoms. Open district phone number 24/7 and share it with red zones residents. So that immediately suspects can be isolated and treatment can be given..
