Karkala, Apr 27: Members of a family from Bola near Belman here have stood out because of making full use of the lockdown holidays and digging a well, instead of sitting idly like most of the other people. Without seeking anyone else's assistance, the family dug a well that is approximately 25 feet deep, and obtained water.

Seven family members of Akshatha Poojary, an internationally acclaimed power lifter, who is a resident of Bola in the taluk, thought of digging a well near their house to address boredom. They dug the well within five days, and got water from it. Ashok and Arun, who are brothers of Akshatha, along with the children of her sister, began to dig well and succeeded in their aim.

The family has been making use of an old well but during summer every year the family was grappling with shortage of water. Therefore, the family planned to have a new well dug. Akshatha Poojary confirmed that the well was dug with the coming together of her family members. "Because of lockdown, we did not get workers to dig such a big well. Therefore, we dug the well ourselves with the support of Sushanth, Sujith and Samith, my sister’s children," she explained.

The family of Bola Akshatha Poojary has stood out as a role model in the midst of the people who while away their entire time in front of televisions and mobile phones. They have made the best use of the lockdown holidays. The family members had no prior experience in this work. They undertook the initiative just like curious children do, and succeeded in their aim.

I appreciate Akshatha Poojary and her family members for their meaningful lock down efforts.

It is the summer time and many of our ponds and wells have dried up. If we all have collective work maintain proper social distance we may solved the water worries for at least for few weeks.

In Rajastan, migrant workers from multiple States quarantined in a government school at Palsana in Rajasthan’s Sikar district decided to give something back to the community that was taking care of them. They repaired and painted the school building free of cost that sheltered them.

It was a labour of love in the midst of the lock-down. But in India center government asked to 'clap' and 'light candles' to waste 40 days in lock down doing nothing.

It is time for temple, mosques, church, Gurdwar to come together and do community service within their own areas that has seen negligence from decade do something to for nation, keep the boredom away and keep them fit.

    Indeed a good deed.

We the rural also have such experience in our boyhood days as we use to dig well, sinking rings, cleaning the deposited mud and other items at bottom of the well. We all do these things in our holidays as we don't have TV and mobile at that time. The people who came from city see this as a big thing and in rural it is common. It is a great time to pass our time. We also use to cultivate vegetables, cereals, cucumber, watermelons etc.. There is no word called BORING at that time.
