Kolar: Politicians ignore social distancing norm while officials follow it

Daijiworld Media Network - Kolar (SP)

Kolar, Apr 28: The lockdown being enforced all over the state are likely to be extended beyond May 3. Irrespective of whether the lockdown rules would be extended or not, the health department has set out certain rules to be followed in order to keep the infection at bay. Wearing of masks and maintaining social distance are two of the most basic and important rules which help people to avoid getting infected.

However, of late, many a time it is seen that the issue of social distancing has been totally ignored. This is not done by ordinary citizens but some state ministers too. In one case, health minister B Sriramulu, had held a meeting on coronavirus in the office of Kolar deputy commissioner's office but he had flagrantly violated the rule. In another incident, rural development minister K S Eshwarappa, who chaired a meeting on drinking water, was seen sitting in line with many others who did not care to maintain any gap between them.

The meeting was held in the zilla panchayat auditorium at Kolar, and district in-charge minister H Nagesh, MP S Muniswamy, MLAs K Y Manje Gowda, S N Narayanaswamy, Roopakala, Srinivas Gowda, Nazeer Ahmed, president C S Venkatesh, deputy commissioner, superintendent of police and several departmental officials were present. During the entire period of meeting, officials who were seated could be seen following social distance norm while the leaders turned a blind eye and sat one next to the other.

One hoped that the leaders took cue from the way Prime Minister Narendra Modi, maintains distance in meetings as shown in television programmes.

Deputy commissioner C Satyabhama who was to be seated in front, was seen sitting backside. It seemed that she chose to do so to maintain social distance.
