Nationwide lockdown extended for two more weeks till May 17

Daijiworld Media Network – New Delhi

New Delhi, May 1: The centre on Friday, extended the lockdown across the country for two more weeks till May 17.

After a comprehensive review, and in view of the lockdown measures having led to significant gains in the CovID-19 situation in the country, Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), Government of India (GoI) issued an order under the Disaster Management Act, 2005, on Friday, May 1, to further extend the lockdown for a further period of two weeks beyond May 4, 2020. MHA also issued new guidelines to regulate different activities in this period, based on the risk profiling of the districts of the country into Red (hotspot). Green and Orange Zones. The guidelines have permitted considerable relaxations in the districts falling in the Green and Orange Zones.

The criteria for identification of districts as Red, Green and Orange Zones have been spelt out in detail in the letter dated April 30, 2020, issued by Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW). The Green Zones will be districts with either zero confirmed cases till date; or, no confirmed case in the last 21 days. The classification of districts as Red Zones will take into account the total number of active cases, doubling rate of confirmed cases, extent of testing and surveillance feedback from the districts. Those districts, which are neither defined as Red nor Green, shall be classified as Orange zones.

The classification of districts into Red, Green and Orange Zones will be shared by MoHFW with the states and union territories (UTs) on a weekly basis, or earlier, as required. While states and UTs can include additional districts as Red and Orange Zones, they may not lower the classification of a district included by MoHFW in the list of Red or Orange Zones.

Lockdown is only to contain the virus at its place and it is a temporary measure to make all necessary arrangements to fight the virus with all might by increased facilities of testing at various locations including villages and slums. Lockdown is extended two times means we are still not completely ready and this is not the good sign. Extended lockdown will damage the economy further and country may have to pay the heavy price for that.

Increased cases of virus at Mumbai and Ahmedabad is worrisome and testing needs to be increased ten folds as told by experts. Otherwise these numbers will increase exponentially and lockdown may have to be extended indefinitely. Government need to find the reason for increased cases in Ahmedabad and Mumbai and explore if “Namaste Trump” was the reason for that. It was told that nearly 5000 foreigners came to this function and they mainly exited through Mumbai and Ahmedabad airport. Even if some of those people carried the virus, that spread may be huge. Government can plan the strategy if the reasons are clear.

Government need to balance between lockdown and economy. It also need to come out with economic stimulus taking into consideration of the damage to the common man particularly daily wage labourers and migration workers. Also MSME should be given certain subsidies so that these industries can survive and contribute in the country's economy. At the same time they need to increase the testing at Red and orange zones so that they can identify clusters and allow other areas to function normally.

Remdesivir- or any other drugs used for Ebola, Malaria, HIV etc are lying around with no market,
Dr Fauci of US is marketing rep for the pharma companies for a cut for himself.
The Ebola drug had proved a failure in controlling Ebola, MERS, Sars or any other viral infections but they have caused more deaths. So word of caution never ever try them by believing these merchants of death posing as health providers.
Again Lock down is no solution but a defensive act hoping virus would subside, but it won't happen like us, if we starve we will die, but a virus outside our body is a dead thing but once it enters our body it becomes alive. Only heat diminishes its ability or its potency to spread.
Herd immunity is the only solution- which can be achieved by youngsters not wearing masks, & mingling with each other without maintaining social distance while vulnerable people getting isolated & protected for minimum 6 months.
If herd immunity develops then no need for toxin laden vaccines which fail most of the times but leave the immunized either maimed or kill immediately or wreaking havoc with their immune system which might cause cancers too according to the latest studies which were hidden by CDC of US despite knowing it from 2 decades.

Extending lockdown further will have very disastrous consequences in a country like ours!
Middle class has already reached begging status now, suicides are on the rise; next is anybody's guess..... ..

Many, including Narayana Murthy have clearly said that starvation & other diseases will kill more people than CORONA itself & the financial condition of those in the informal sector and MSMEs will become precarious!

To be precise WHO declared it as global emergency on January 30. In India Rahul Gandhi (Feb 12) tweets urging the government of India to take the Corona threat seriously, but he is mocked at. The Markaz event from 13-15 March where international delegates are allowed to come with due permission without any airport screening. Indian Government on 13th March declares through the spokesperson of Ministry of Health and family Welfare that Corvid 19 is not and Emergency in India. While Delhi Government starts putting restrictions on assemblies from 13th March the Government of India wakes up by calling a Janata Curfew on 22nd March. This is followed by the National lockdown on 24th March, which was declared at a notice of four hours.

It is to be noted that India recorded its first case of #COVID19 on January 30, 2020. But throughout February, the Central Government failed to act to curb the spread of the virus or make preparations to deal with it.

Instead the Central Government organised large crowds and rallies to greet US President Trump, exposing thousands to the danger of the virus. The supporters of the ruling BJP- led “communal” mobs in North East Delhi in February.

The extension after after extension doesn't going to help India that doesn't have proper exist strategy. Indian economy is expected to lose over $4.5 billion every day of the lock-down and around $100 billion during the 21 day nationwide lock-down period. The world's biggest lock-down may have cost economy Rs 7-8 lakh crore during the 21-day period.

In addition, the PMO has also refused to make public details of high-level meetings on COVID-19 and on the decision to implement a lockdown, the correspondence between the Ministry of Health and the PMO in this regard, and files related to COVID-19 testing.

The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) has refused to make documents related to the PM-CARES Fund public.

Most of the infection in our country was spread by a very few individuals who came from abroad and wandered about.
With the possible arrival of over three lakh people from abroad through government repatriation scheme, India is going to be in the news for a long long time. As such we area people who do not like discipline, want to spit where we like .
Corona is likely to clean up not only the elderly and sick, but also stupid and arrogant population wherever they are.
A world without old and elderly is going to be a sad place for sure. But a world without stupid and idiot population may not look that bad ? …..hmm lets wait and see.

If citizen's come out with an attitude of "Nayi Bala Donku" , lockdown system never works. Continuation of lockdown makes me feel like " we stepping towards building an economic depression in our country"

It's not that simple. Lockdown should be accompanied with support for basic necessities like food and health care.I don't see that happening in most places. People with serious illnesses are denied medical care. People with no income have no where to go for food to survive.

We sitting in our comfortable homes probably don't feel the pinch. Least we can do is help one family in distress. Lockdown is not the same for all.

We need to educate our masses how to self-distance, how to protect oneself and how to avoid gatherings, unwanted visits to shops etc. There is no need for a full family to go to a shop to buy one kg of rice. just one member can do it. This is how people should be taught. EACH ONE MUST TAKE CARE OF HIMSELF OR HERSELF; THE END RESULT WILL BE... EVERYONE WILL BE MADE RESPONSIBLE. If they break the rules, they pay for it by life. We can not afford to drown our economy just because some are behaving irresponsibly. What we can see in this saga is ... we do not have an United Emergency Procedure or Agency to plan and execute the Goverment's orders. Quite sad.

Cynthia, any amount of lockdowns are not going to work in defeating an airborne virus; only thing that can save is "herd immunity", see how Sweden did it!

Per experiences with past pandemics, a second more virulent wave is expected where only strong immunity can save you; but not lockdowns which are temporary & not effective in a heavily populated country like ours with all the ignorance, utter lack of hygeine, religious dogmas, myths, etc etc!!

    Hat,

Read this LATEST n article of Wall Street Journal about remdesivir.

By Michelle Hackman and Thomas M. Burton

    Updated May 1, 2020 4:31 pm ET

WASHINGTON—The Food and Drug Administration authorized the emergency use of the drug remdesivir in Covid-19 patients after researchers reported that it shortened the recovery times in people who have fallen ill from the new coronavirus.

The FDA action limits the use of the drug, produced by Gilead Sciences Inc., for only through the duration of the pandemic, but health regulators could grant full approval if more benefits emerge from a large study by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and other clinical trials under way.

The institute said that a preliminary analysis of its study showed that hospitalized Covid-19 patients taking remdesivir had a speedier recovery than patients taking a placebo—though the reported benefit was moderate, with remdesivir patients recovering in 11 days, or four days faster than the placebo group.

Remdesivir, an antiviral drug administered intravenously and previously tested as a treatment for Ebola, is among the most closely watched experimental treatments for Covid-19, and is being studied in multiple clinical trials around the world. The drug is the first to show a benefit in treating Covid-19 in a major clinical trial.

President Trump, speaking in the Oval Office Friday next to Gilead Chief Executive Daniel O’Day, called the drug “the hot thing” and “an important treatment for hospitalized coronavirus patients.”

This drug was tested during Ebola & instead of any help it caused more deaths in that African country,
In China they used it too & found it to be not working but paid supporter of pharma companies is Dr Fauci whose interview I had seen yesterday.
Expect more deaths now from Adverse Drug Reaction from this drug too just like Malaria drug too. Liver damage is noticed in those to whom it was administered. US doctor who had treated the eboloa patients got infected but they went to US to get treatment where no drugs were used but only supportive treatment was given & all recovered.
Human Guinea Pigs these assumed covid patients have become. We have petitioned PM about this & not to let any new drugs to be tried(experimented) without the permission of family members & their family doctors permission as patients have no say once they get inside like in detention centers.
