Liquor, paan shops to open in areas falling under Green Zone from May 4

Daijiworld Media Network - New Delhi (SHP)

New Delhi, May 1: As the government issued an order to extend the lockdown by two more weeks after May 4, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) in its order has allowed for liquor stores and paan shops to function in the areas which are classified as Green Zones.

However, these shops will be required to follow the social distancing norm where the people have to ensure a minimum of six feet of distance between one another. Further, no more than five people will be allowed to be present inside the shop at one time.

Meanwhile, the MHA has not allowed any such relaxation to the areas under the Red Zones, given the critical situation prevailing in these areas. However, those under the Green and Orange Zones will be able to experience a certain level of relaxation.

The Green Zones are those districts with either zero confirmed cases till date or no confirmed case in the last 21 days.

The classification of districts as Red Zones will take into account the total number of active cases, doubling rate of confirmed cases, the extent of testing and surveillance feedback from the districts.

On the other hand, districts classified as Orange Zones are those which do not fall under Red or Green. The classification of districts into Red, Green and Orange Zones will be shared by MoHFW with the States and Union Territories (UTs) every week, or earlier as required. While States and UTs can include additional districts as Red and Orange Zones, they may not lower the classification of a district included by MoHFW in the list of Red or Orange Zones.

These liquor, paan shops and even food take-out restaurants should have been kept open much before May 4. There would have been less cases of covid-19, suicides and people going hungry in some cases. We never know that this date might change any time at the discretion of the authorities.

Mangalore with total number of cases under 25 is put in red zone! This is ridiculous! Wherever the cases have been detected, prompt action is being taken. It's not that new infections emerge from every part of the city. Further why should entire district should be classified in red zone? There hasn't been a single case in Moodbidri and therefore guidelines should be relaxed for Moodbidri and surrounding areas.

Are you surprised ? Doing somersaults and about turns typical of the ruling dispensation.
Make rules and flout them by the highest officials including Chief Ministers . Holding meetings, celebrations, religious functions with scant regard for social distancing etc. Initially, emphatic that no trains will be run for migrants. now one more U turn. Photo opportunities and vote harvesting the only motivation for these political parties.

Exactly! Now people can chew pan and spit around. This was the best time to ban pan permanently..but for govt, that looks like a priority included in essentials. Ridiculous! How is hygiene to be maintained when people spit everywhere?4273

My sincere and humble, request to PM Modiji, kindly do not allow wine shops and bars to operate, even in green zones, as addicts will create a nightmare..... blow up whatever little savings, on booze...and will definitely bring more misery and untold suffering in their families !!!!!

Living beyond ones means is also a dangerous addiction. Saving money till it rots and not helping the poor is also an addiction . Everyone has a perception of what is good and what is bad. If there are alcoholics who cannot stop then one must understand thats a mental disease that needs to be treated through proper counseling and medicines. But no one should have an issue with people who drink socially. There are also people who really hard work, who need it, just like how soldiers in places like Siachen need it. Everything done beyond moderately is bad. Even eating sweets or eating junk food.
