Mangalore: Over 15,000 Devotees Attend Annual Feast of Infant Jesus

Mangalore, Jan 14: The Annual Feast of Infant Jesus was celebrated with great solemnity and devotion on 14th Jan, 2009 at Infant Jesus Shrine, Bikarnakatte, Mangalore. The devotees flowed from early morning till night. There were 7 masses in the morning and a prayer service for non-Catholics.
The solemn festal Eucharistic celebration was at 6 pm at which Rt. Rev. Aloysius Paul D’Souza, Bishop of Mangalore was the president with 60 priests as con-celebrants. “Be attached to Jesus, the High Priest who broke himself to open the doors of heaven for us. Inculcate the childlike attitude of Child Jesus in your life to attain the heavenly reward,” said the Bishop addressing the devotees of Infant Jesus. The whole Hill with 15,000 devotees participated with rapture devotion and piety.
In the morning ocean of devotees irrespective of caste and creed climbed the Carmel Hill, to pay homage to the Infant King with burning candles, offering flowers etc. It looked as if all roads in Mangalore led to this little hillock which has become an oasis of harmony and brotherhood. The sick and the elderly were specially prayed for.
Nine days of Novena preceded the festivities. Different themes on Priesthood were reflected upon in this year dedicated to the priests. People in large number participated in the Novena.
