Bangalore: Holy Eucharist Konkani Sangh Inaugurated in Bommanahalli

Bangalore, Jan 16: The inauguration and first family get-together of Holy Eucharist Konkani Sangh, Bommanahalli, was held recently.
The Eucharistic celebration by Fr Micheal Menezes in Konkani raised the hearts of the faithful in union with the Lord. The inauguration programme started with invoking the Holy Spirit through the hymn.
Assess Miranda, 82, and one of the oldest members of the community, inaugurated the ‘Holy Eucharist Konkani Catholic Sangh’.
In her message, she said that what is begun today has to continue for the generations to come.
Chief guest of the programme Bommanahalli MLA Satish Reddy appreciated the efforts of the Christian community and assured protection of minorities while reiterating the development works undertaken and implemented by him.
Mahesh Lobo, director of programme development, Habitat for Humanity, said that the use of Konkani language like rendering prayers in Konkani, speaking to children in Konkani, and subscribing to Konkani magazines, needs to be done.
He added that Konkani is a great language and has got recognition both in the constitution and Guinness Book of Records, so we should not shy away from speaking such a lovely language and following Konkani culture.
Charles Gomes, chairman, FKCA, explained the role of the Konkani Federation in bringing together the Konkani people under one umbrella.
Valerian Fernandes, past chairman, FKCA, talked of the basic motto of creation of Associations and Federations and said that associations need to help to know, to reach out, and should be there for the Konkani fraternity in times of need. He also said that we can raise our voice against injustice and fight for our rights only if we are united.
Fr Amarnath, parish priest, Holy Eucharist Church, Bommanahalli, said that language gives us identity and appreciated the efforts of the community. “More and more people should come together for the betterment of the parish while maintaining integrity and co-operation”, he added.
Anand James D Silva, president, Holy Eucharist Konkani Catholic Sangh, presenting the objectives of the Sangh, said that, its priority is uniting the Konkani Catholic families from Madivala to Hosur; Begur to Sarjapur, and fostering the language and reaching out to the needy families through various activities.
After the entertainment programme, it was time for kids to participate in games conducted by Leena Lobo and Noel.
The common games for all and housie game gave an opportunity for more than 17 winners to carry away fabulous prizes.
Laveena D’Souza welcomed. President and vice-president were honoured during the programme and J R Pais was the master of ceremony.
