Heggade Stresses Need for Communal Harmony at Consecration Celebrations of Jacobite Church

Mangalore, Jan 30: “A temple or a church should give peace of mind to a devotee and should make him surrender to God. Hence, a place of God should attract with its structure”, said Dr D Veerendra Heggade, Dharmadhikari of Dharmastala, at a public meeting organized at St Antony’s Jacobite Syrian Church, Jeppu, as part of the celebration of its Holy Maroon Consecration Ceremony on renovation.
Speaking on Saturday January 30, he said that the church is a place which makes devotees surrender to God in search of his blessings. “The architecture of the churches helps everybody pray in a silent environment. When entering this church it attracted me with its beauty”, he said appreciating the renovated church.
Dr Heggade recalled that he had seen a similar church on his visit to Russia and said that the ancient temples and churches were a good place to worship God which even on a first visit makes us pray to God in a different way.
He also said that the Jacobite Syrian community has contributed much to the culture of this district. “Their contributions to the field of agriculture, business, and others in a notable manner are really appreciable. Without discriminating in the name of religion, we have to live in a better way in future”, added Dr Heggade.
Oscar Fernandes, former union minister, inaugurated the programme. Dr J S Sadananda, Bishop of C S I Karnataka Southern Diocese, released the parish telephone directory.
MLA U T Khader, and Vinay Kumar Sorake, former Member of Parliament, were present as chief guests.
H B Baselios Thomas I Catholicos of the East, Ernakulam, presided over the programme.
H G Geevargeese Mor Polycarpose, Bishop of EAE and Honnavar Mission, H G Joseph Mor Ivanios, Bishop of Kandanad Diocese, H G Mathews Mor Aprem, Bishop of High Range Region Angamali Diocese, H G Paulose More Irenios, Bishop of Calicut Diocese, H G Yacob Mor Anthonois, Assistant Bishop of Honnavar Misson, and Monsignor Fr Dennis Moras Prabhu, vicar general of Mangalore Diocese, were also present.
The Holy Maroon Consecration celebrations started on Friday January 29 and will conclude with consecration on Sunday January 31.
