Mangalore: ‘Janapada Nrityostava-2010’ for Special Children Concludes at Town Hall

Mangalore, Feb 3: ‘Janapada Nrityostava-2010’, organized by Saanidhya Residential School and Training Centre for the Mentally Challenged, Saanidhya Samartha Centre, and Ganesha Seva Trust, concluded on Tuesday February 2, at the Town Hall.
The event saw the participation of 400 children from 33 schools across the state.
The Nrityostava was organized to encourage the special children studying in various special schools in the state. The state-level competition focused on folk dance.
At the valedictory function, the winners in the competition were honoured with awards. Chetana Special School, Karkala, won the first prize, while Swasta Rehabilitation Centre, Shuntikoppa, won second prize and JSS Sahana School, Mysore, came in third place.
Matta Special School, Dharwad, Arunodaya Special School, JSS Sahana School in Mysore, Lions Special School, Surathkal, and Chetana Special School, V T Road, in the city, were awarded with consolation prizes. Judges for the events were also honoured during the programme.
Chief guest at the valedictory programme, Krishna Palemar, said that children in special schools and the mentally challenged children need special care and the government is concerned about this matter. He assured that he will take care of proper distribution of funds allotted by the government.
Sr Marie Prem D’Souza, principal St Agnes College, paediatrician Dr Santhosh T Soans, Shakuntala, deputy director, women and child welfare department, were guests of honour.
Mahabala Marla, president, Ganesha Seva Trust, welcomed all. Honorary secretary Vasanth Kumar Shetty and treasurer Jagadeesh Shetty were also present. Prof Radhakrishna conducted the programme.
The competition was inaugurated on Monday February 1 by MLA Yogish Bhat at the Town Hall. Four persons were felicitated by the organizers during the inaugural function.
U C Paulose, founder, Seon Ashram in Belthangady, and Ashok Kumar, headmaster, SDM Mangala Jyothi School, were felicitated for their service to society and encouragement to special children, while businessman Dinesh Shetty and music teacher Kasturi were felicitated for their achievement in keeping their disability at bay.
