M'lore: High Court Stay Vacated - Volvo Buses from City on Udupi Route Soon

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore (RS/SB)

Mangalore, Feb 3: If everything goes according to the plan, the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) may soon begin the most-awaited Volvo bus services on Mangalore-Udupi route. The stay in the High Court that was deterrent to start government bus services between Mangalore and Udupi has been vacated.

Speaking to Daijiworld, Regional Transport Officer J Purushotham confirmed the vacation of high court stay. He said that soon RTA will call a meeting with participation of private bus operators in the Dakshina Kannada district, who have been opposing the move to arrive at consensus. The KSRTC has already filed an application to start Volvo services between Mangalore-Udupi. The number of buses and the date of the beginning of services have not been decided yet, he added.

District in-charge minister J Krishna Palemar said that the government has proposed to start services of eight Volvo buses between Mangalore and Udupi soon.

Welcome move but still waiting for the buses, at mean time its also time to start with some of the city routes since private buses don't give full time service. buses are stopped during non rush hours and public have to suffer, also the private buses are the main cause of road blocks in the the city since conductors keep on calling for people from state Bank to kankanady, same towards k.s. rao road etc...no action by police for this slow moving buses picking up people from any point were hand is shown to stop the bus.

Do not imagine a good service from KSRTC. They have full liberty once you paid for the ticket to take you on time or not. KSRTC failed to provide monopoly routes in DK district (NH48) then what we can expect now with Volvo buses? Little more money but can get service for Money from private operators.

Tired of travelling by private buses. We need Volvo airconditioned buses in these routes as it is very difficult to travel with crowded private buses without A.C.as the coastal routes are always hot through out the year.Govt.should also introduce A.C.buses to Karkal via Belman & Udupi route to be extended upto Kundapur ,Barkur & Manipal. Wish you all the best Mr.Ashok,honl.transport minister,in this venture as this is our long awaited wish & demand. Thanks & Many good wishes. Jacob Mendonsa

You people are creating more competition for private bus operators and this will lead to rash driving and the roads are narrow and lot of curves.
