Bellary, Feb 4: It was a miracle that occurred on Wednesday February 3, when rescuers pulled out a construction labourer from the debris of the multi-storeyed building in Gandhinagar here. The building collapsed nine days ado killing over two dozen people.

While, Mallaiah was lucky to survive, he received a blow from the fate in the form of death of his wife and colleague, Nagamma, whose decomposed body was found during rescue operation. The couple had migrated from Gejjihalli in the neighbouring Adoni taluk of Andhra Pradesh.

The 40-year-old Mallaiah has survived with a fractured hand and is admitted to Vijayanagar Institute of Medical Science Hospital. He narrated that a pot full of water saved his life.

Over 40 persons were trapped inside the building, an apartment complex under construction when it crashed down on the night of January 26. So far, 20 have been rescued and 27 bodies have been recovered.

Absolutely. I wish Mallaiah recovers faster. But i have a basic question that if we are rescuing people for their lives, does it take such a long time, as days together. A faster rescue operation would have saved so many other people too. Please people come up with thoughts and lets make this world a better place to live in. Regards, Zaheer.
