Bangalore, Feb 6: Ignatius Orwin Noronha’s ‘Mozziquit’, mosquito trap won the ISA Best Electronics Product of the Year - 2010 Health Care award. Noronha, the inventor of the product received the honour from Rakesh Singh, additional secretary of information and technology in centre at the Taj West End here, recently.
‘Mozziquit’ – Product without Harmful Chemicals
Mozziquit is an innovative mosquito apparatus. It is a non-repellent. The apparatus attracts and kills mosquitoes instantly without the use of any harmful chemicals. They are collected in removable containers fitted in the bottom. Moreover, it consumes 25 paise electricity cost daily and some Rs 50 every two years for replacement of small parts, says Noronha.
Noronha claims that Mozziquit is effective even in an area of 10,000 sq ft provided there are no barriers. The apparatus even sucks invisible and minute dust particles.
It was displayed at an exhibition on the occasion of ISA Technovation 2010, vision summit organized by the Indian Semiconductor Association here.
Noronha, managing director of Leowin Solutions Pvt Ltd said that the product costs Rs 2,990 and is set to hit the market in two months. “The National Institute of Malaria Research has certified the product and the department of scientific and industrial research (DSIR ) initially contributed Rs 75,000 as micro-finance assistance”, he added
The idea was conceived by Noronha after he saw a mosquito magnet of American Bio Physics Inc some years ago carrying a huge price tag of Rs 1.1 lac, which had to be fitted with three LPG cylinders to function every month.
“The product requires Rs 4.5 crore to be launched. The DSIR, Delhi has approved Rs 45 lac grant under TePP Phase II Grant on August 11 2009. However, no amount has been sanctioned so far. Indian Angel Network has shown interest to invest Rs 4 crore against 20% equity with exit plan in five years. Approximately Rs 850 crore turnover is expected in five years against sale of three million units only in India with Rs 320 crore income after VAT and income tax. The delay is only due to raising required funds”, explained Noronha.
