Mangalore, Feb 9: Police clamped Section 144 in Suratkal on Tuesday February 9, after reports of some minor incidents which disturbed the communal harmony in the area. They ordered that shops and business centers be shut down before 8 pm on Tuesday.
The disturbances reported over the past seven days included assaults on people belonging to two different religions. Eight people from both the communities have been injured during this time.
In an incident on Tuesday, the head of a cow was found on the premises of the Kanteri Dhoomavati Temple near Suratkal Market, and this created some tension.
Suratkal police said that additional forces had been deployed at sensitive places in the area.
