Kundapur: Miscreants Damage Grotto of Lord Infant Jesus at Katkere Church

News and Pics by Vinay Pais
Daijiworld Media Network – Kundapur (SB)

Kundapur, Feb 14: Some unidentified miscreants have broken the glass enclosure of the grotto of Lord Infant Jesus and severely disfigured the idol of Lord Infant Jesus at the Infant Jesus Church in Katkere near Koteshwar here on Saturday February 13 late night.

Fr Boniface D’Souza said that the incident that came to light on Sunday February 14 morning has left the locals disturbed. The miscreants suspected to be locals have caused damage to a hand as well as an eye of the idol after smashing the glass enclosure of the grotto, what appears to be stone pelting, he said.

The Infant Jesus Church is under the management of Carmelite fathers. Police have visited the spot and investigation is on. The locals are agitated as when a similar incident had occurred earlier, proper protection was demanded as a precautionary measure to prevent such happening.

Dear Mr. D.M.D.Souza Jesus came down from heaven, born as a human to sacrifice himself. As a human He suffered, sweat, wept, slept, became hungry, never sinning, faultless and sinless. In the olden days people were sacrificing a bull, ox, cereal, dove, and pigeons as sin offerings and once Jesus sacrificed himself we are free from all those Old Testament’s immediate punishments and sin offerings. Now we have forgiveness and grace. Therefore, we humans who have to repent, stop wildness, wickedness and revive ourselves from the unrighteous ways to righteousness, from wickedness to goodness, from darkness to light. It is true that there are people who say that they know the holy bible and they know not. They say that they know everything what Jesus said but they do not lead righteous ways.

That is the reason Jesus was saying, the passage reads as 21"Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22Many will say to me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?' 23Then I will tell them plainly, 'I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!'. Here Jesus was emphasizing to the evil doers. Concerning to Infant Jesus will not be killed by Herod because to pull out to Egypt was prophesized by Prophet Isaiah and Prophet Hosea and accordingly this was accomplished. Hosea Chapter 11:1 & Matthew 2:15

Dear Rolphy Almeida, Udupi/Bangalore, please do not misquote me. Vandalism of any nature is to be condemned. My request to you is, not to get agitated, but analyze attack on religious places around the world. Indian Media seems to be terribly biased when it comes to report of vandalization of churches in contrast to their silence when other religious places are looted/ desecrated.

Well, Mr Moras, unfortunately I didnt understand a bit of what u wrote there... Most probably, it must have been a copy paste of a Novena :) Well if u wanna pray for me... u dont have to write the story here... u can just pray to our Lord. He will Listen...

Mr. DM Dsouza, I did go through ur comments, Possibly ur interpretation went a lil off way. Christ "COULD NOT" save himself when he was an infant because he was a weak Kid! like u and me(Remember, Perfect human, Pefect God) Hence God sent his angels for the purpose. At the Cross, Christ Had a choice, to save himself and dump us into condemnation or die for us so that we are spared. These are 2 clear aspects of this life we need to Understand and Live with. I dont deny the Jesus is God nor can i think of denying my Savior. BUT, Infant Jesus does not seem real. atleast not his story of Prague. Also, What if i call u a Kid, bachha, baby, Infant... after u have grown up... would that make u happy always? Christ does not want u to think of him as a Kid! Also, It was not his birth or infancy that brought salvation, But his death did...

Finally, think of it this way, When we say Hindus worship Idols, what are we doing, worshipping(adoring) a idol/image of Infant Jesus who does not exist in that form anymore? isnt that IDOLATORY? I have seen in temples, gods being dressed everyday, they do it to IJ too, isnt that Idolatory? Gold? Silver? Still open to ur thoughts. Thanks!

By attacking churches dear miscreants do not think you can erase Christianity. You all are cowards. In your narrow brain only one thing is been keyed in by the politicians that we are doing conversions. Its wrong. This is all result of BJP who is ruling Karnataka. You all have no gutts to attack Mosques. Why ? In all movies you all show Catholics as Drunkards, insulting Christians, why all this not done for Muslims ? No guts ? Why Hindus do not drink ? all film stars mostly Hindus go to the party and drink ? I have many Hindu friends who are very good but all this attacking churches is work of evil people. Also celebration of Valentine day is also not celebrated by the church. It has become a commercial nowadays and these politicians have given so importance to this day and blame Christians finally ! Every religion has pros and cons and we can't boast that each one's religion is great. Every religion teaches to love each other and truth. So please live in peace and let others live in peace. There are many issues which need to be paid utmost attention than attacking churches. In our country chilhood marriage still takes placde, many children are deprived of their birth rights, no food, no shelter. So miscreants alongwith politicians should work on these issues. Jai Bharat !

This spineless government has become a mere spectator when places of worship are being attacked. Today they act innocent and clueless, but there is a day called “The day of judgment” and all our wrong doings will be listed. No lawyer will come to defend us, no enquiry commission required, no report will be handed over to the ruling government, hence be prepared. In addition to that, even before leaving the earth, we all have to bear the pain in multiples that we have caused to others. May God bless you all and keep away from all evil spirit.

There are prayer meetings happening in villa's, halls and houses, no body pork their nose as it doesnot create any havoc to the society. Even Arab Muslim visit and attend church. No issue. Are u a christian to comment about the church involvement of Europeans.

For your kind information they do attend church services and they do have their own prayer services. What this has to do with the vandalisation of the church. This shows your mean mentality by sitting in Dubai. Who are you to advise minority where to go. It is our freedom we choose where we have to settle.

Neil Rodrigues, u have got the Bible quotations wrong. If infant Jesus couldn't save himself from Herod-then he would've been slaughtered then itself. According to you Jesus couldn't escape from crucification either- so let us assume the one who cannot save himself cannot save us as well. Please go through the Bible & u will find Jesus & God are not separate-u can only enter the Kingdom of Heaven only if u become like a child.Placing images & worshipping images are 2 separate things in Christian Adoration. In Bible Jesus says many will come after my ascendency to heaven claiming to be the one who Jesus promissed to come back is me, & not the way u thought it.Please read Mathew 7,para21.

I personally respect every religion, infact I have lot respect for the Hindu community as they are majority in India and majority of them are good people. These incidents are nothing more than politically motivated agenda backed by ruling government as they already made the history Karnataka. They just "TALK & TALK" but won't "WALK & WALK" with thier citizens with thier problems. When Bandh, Communal Harmony, Lock-out takes place.. majority people suffer from hindu community as they are majority in the society. For Eg: If you take Bus from Mangalore- Udupi, majority passengers are Hindus in the bus, in hospitals, schools, banks,

Public offices,Work place..etc everywhere hindus are majority in numbers, when these incidents takes place .. majority community cannot move freely with thier childrens, families, friends to schools ,work place,Banks, Hospitals, Work Place,Restaurants,Shopping ,Public functions..etc Ofcourse other communities like Christians, Muslims also suffers BUT not in Large Numebrs as they are minority in the society.

Mr. Jerry Moras, thanks for the history... It is strange that we as Christians know we worship and follow the True Lord Jesus Christ... then why get agitated. The lord will take his time but will surely do justice... Well, if there was no imagery in the church..this day wouldnt have come... we are more attached to the images than christ himself. Why would infant jesus ask for his hands to be corrected...lets face it.. he is the all powerful God...

The person who could raise himself from the dead(i know GOD did it) can do anything if he wants to.. of all things, an idol...and we christians think by adoring the idol of IJ miracles happen...now isnt this fulfilling the prophecy of christ that says in the last day many will come in my Name??? moreover, the IJ of the Bible was a real human infant...just like our kids.... he couldnt save himself from Herod...God had to send his angels to inform Joseph..dont u read somethin here...the Infant Jesus of Mlore and Bangalore is a creation of the Carmalite Priests...by encouraging such acts we are not just drawing our christian brothers and sisters to a new christ..but also new believers...Is this correct? open to ur thoughts and answers?

I face many hurdles day and night, They all attempt to make me slow The force of my will paves its way , None can succeed to change my flow. The height of Everest is singing my glory, The swirling oceans make a splendid show My enemies attack me with a strong zeal, But my resolve and patience always grow.

I am a cradle of many faiths and creeds, All are shining like a glittering snow Those who desire to tear my bosom apart, To them, I am ready to give a lethal blow. Still I have some spots of anguish and pain, Some of my sons still cry like an ugly crow The time will heal all the scars and wounds, ‘Joy for all’ is my goal: my determined vow. As I say infant hand lost Let me bring some light on Infant Jesus : Prague lost the most ardent devotees of the Infant. Disturbances in Bohemia due to the Thirty Years War brought an end to the special devotions, and on November 15, 1631, the army of King Gustavus Adolphus of Sweden took a possession of the churches of the capital city of Bohemia. The Carmelite friary was plundered by the Lutheran Swedes, and the image of the Infant of Prague was thrown into a pile of rubbish behind the altar. Here it lay forgotten, its hands broken off, for seven years until it was found again in 1637 by Father Cyrillus and placed in the church's oratory. One day, while praying before the statue, Father Cyrillus heard a voice say, "Have pity on me, and I will have pity on you. Give me my hands, and I will give you peace. The more you honor me, the more I will bless you." Since then, the statue has remained in Prague and has drawn many devotees worldwide to go and honor the Holy Child. Claims of blessings, favors and miraculous healings have been made by many who petitioned before the Infant Jesus. Statuettes of the Infant Jesus are placed inside many Catholic churches, sometimes with the quotation, "The more you honor me, the more I will bless you."

This attack is the direct fall out of inactiveness of the govt, patronisation of saffron brigade, patronisation of hate and devision. Miscreants are roaming free. No law and order and rule of law in our state. Just goonda raj. No development. Only achievement of this govt is attacks on places of worship, distribution of ganga jal, cow slaughter ban which are all unconstitutional. No respect for constritution and democratical values is the main feature of this government. I am ashamed to call myself as the son of coastal karnataka. Mother karnataka is being raped off her secular credentials. Why to call pakistani and jehadis as terrorits when we do have terrorists within us. Our peace loving twin districts of DK Udupi have earned the dubious distinction of being communally sensitive. Thanks to the present State government for this ugly tag on our otherwise progressive and forward looking and enterprising people which is now taken over by a few (a miniscule) backward looking, dark, evil individuals to only further their political prospects. All communally sensitive districts of North India have shed this tag which has now been acquired by our land for all the wrong reasons. I think it is high time the H'ble State Governor sends a report recommending for invoking Article 356 as the law and order machinery has become a puppet in the hands of a narrow minded politicians whose only objective is to divide the people for short term electoral gains. However this strategy will not last long and sure to result in the law of diminishing returns as what has happenned in UP, Maharashtra , Rajasthan, Delhi & Haryana for the party which indulges in this type of misadventure.

Completely disagree with Lancy's views. Incomparision Muslims are tolerating these culprit groups for many decades and now they have start targeting christians sentiments too.You can't wait and watch say people be patience. It is not a true and false God issue too. You have to fight back for the justice till the culprit punished.

Why are people blaming government for all little incidents? This is not such a major thing that its becoming main headlines. Why people didnt protest when 1000 temples attacked in australia?

KATKERE FALLS UNDER I THINK UDUPI CONSTITUENCY. SO THERE ARE MANY RETIRED SCRAP POLITICAL MASTER MINDS READY FOR GOING TO RETREAT AND PILIGRIMAGE WHO WANTS TO EARN THE POLITICAL MILEAGE. OR MAY BE SHIFING & THE FUTURE PLAN OF CBSE SCHOOL AND COLLEGE SIMILAR TO MILAGRES SHRINE ATTACK DRAMA IN MANGALORE. IF YOU PAY A LITTLE MONEY THERE IS NO SHORTAGE OF HIT AND RUN CRIMINAL ELEMENTS IN INDIA.

These overjealous people who damage religious places will surely testify about thier misdeeds to hurt people's sentiments as happen in many cases like that where people who hurt clery and religious places murmured thier mistakes at the time of thier last day on this beautifull day.

LANCY, MOODBIDRI Really I condemn this type of attack. Your lord & our lord teached the same thing. Word Heaven, Hell etc is from Hindu books. What ever written in your book is already written in our book. Please do not blame BJP , Sene , Baj Rang etc. WE the Hindus know our History. Route cause for all this is converting poor , uneducated , unhealthy hindus diplomatically.

Cowards are at it again. Unless the present govt., takes strict measures these things will go on. Probably the Higher Courts need to intervene & issue ultimatum to this 'Kumbkarna' to perform or get dissolved.
