Panaji, Jul 10: The Cha Cha Nehru Children's Park at Mapusa also known as 'Hattiche garden' ( elephants' garden) saw a portion damaged as the Thursday's rains uprooted a huge tree.
Only the elephant-shaped slide escaped any damage, the municipal councilor Sandeep Falari said. But the entrance portico, gateway, compound wall, and the children play equipment were damaged due to the fallen tree, he said.
The elephant slide, regarded as a heritage, was sculpted by late Vithu Chari from Mapusa. The then Portuguese government awarded him with a certificate for the work.
Chairperson of the Mapusa Municipal Council Ryan Braganza said that the repair would begin only after the monsoon subsides. "Once the monsoon subsides, we will start the repair works of the park," Braganza said.
