Beltangady: BJP Loses Power in Taluk Panchayat

Beltangady, Mar 10: With the no-confidence motion moved by the Congress members of the taluk panchayat having been passed with a 12-0 mandate, its president, Vijaykumar of the BJP, was dethroned on Tuesday March 9.

All the 12 Congress-supported members of the taluk panchayat attended the meeting convened to consider the no-confidence motion, while the others remained away. In the taluk panchayat, 12 members belong to the Congress, eight to the BJP and the remaining three, to JD(S).

The no-confidence motion had been moved about three months back, but the meetings got repeatedly adjourned for one reason or the other. On Tuesday too, the BJP and the JD(S) members abstained from the meeting. But, the meeting, presided over by vice-president, Tanuja Shekhar, passed the resolution without any opposition.
