Mangalore: Crew Members Rescued After Boat Mishap in Arabian Sea

Mangalore, Mar 11: Ten crew members of a boat carrying crusher jelly to Agatti Island in Lakshadweep, were involved in a mishap in the Arabian Sea on Friday March 11, and were rescued by fishermen from another boat. 

The incident occurred at about a distance of 16 nautical miles from Bunder area in the city. 

The rescued crew is from Jam Salaya in Gujarat state. The boat, named ‘Ghose Samdani’, was owned by Hameed Yakub. The vessel sunk in the sea after water seeped in. 





























Captain of the boat, Yakub Ibrahim, said that the boat set out to sea at about 6 am on Friday March 1 from Bunder after loading crusher jelly worth about Rs 3 lac. 

He added that around 11 am, they noticed water coming inside the boat and were unsuccessful in pumping out the water.

“Realizing the danger, we were informed about the risk through wireless and all were shifted to the lifeboat”, he said adding, “the nearest fishing boat hurried to the rescue and moved us to their vessel”.

The rescued crew members are Yakub Ibrahim(captain), Khasim Siddiq, Adam Abdulla, Adam Allararakha, Razak Yakub, Iss Sumhar, Ali Akbar Yakub, Talab Yakub, Hasan Talab, and Noor Mahamamd  Ibrahim.

The total loss is estimated to be around Rs 45 lac. No injuries were reported in the incident.
