Kasargod, Apr 17: In a simple operation, a gang of thieves decamped with 18 kilograms of gold jewellery worth about Rs 2.85 crore in broad daylight on Friday April 16. Rajdhani Jewellery, located in the heart of Kanhangad town, lost the said jewellery on account of the strategy employed by the thieves, which was both unique and simple.

The theft was committed between 12.30 pm and 2.00 pm, when the shop was closed, and the employees had gone to the nearby mosque for offering prayer. The thieves rigged a hole in the wall of the neighbouring electric items repair shop. The repair shop was closed on account of Vishu festival, and thieves took away gold ornaments stored in the upper storey of the shop.

The employees of Rajdhani Jewlellery, on their return from the mosque, found the items having been scattered in the shop. Its manager, Hasainar, filed a police complaint. Deputy superintendent of police, Jose Cherian, circle inspector, K Ashraf, and sub-inspector, Sunil Kumar, led the preliminary investigations. Finger print experts and sniffer dogs also were summoned to help in the investigations.
