Mangaluru, Oct 8: Online frauds are on the rise all over the country and unfortunately educated people are turning victims of online frauds. The public needs to be alert before falling prey to such frauds.

There are several instances where people fall prey to online frauds and went on to lose lacs of rupees. They even hesitate to come forward to lodge a complaint to cyber police.

Recently, journalist Dayanand Kukkaje of Daijiworld received a notification from a fake Snapdeal URL which said that he has won a Swift car and he should pay Rs 4,150 to get himself registered.

A caller speaking in Hindi was continuously calling Dayanand who is a regular customer of Snapdeal since several years. The caller had created a fake Snapdeal site which looked identical to the original Snapdeal site.

Dayanand is a regular customer of online shopping site. The caller had extracted all the details Dayanand had ordered from the online shopping site. Public should be alert whenever they get messages regard to winning any contest as the hackers easily morph the original online sites. This makes people easily fall prey to online frauds.

Dayanand was alert that it was a fake offer from Snapdeal and he immediately complained Snapdeal customer service for further action.

Snapdeal immediately responded stating, "I wish to inform you that the offer mentioned by you in your communication is not from Snapdeal, and appears to be a scam. Please do not respond to any such phone call/email/SMS claiming to offer rewards/lucky draw prizes on behalf of Snapdeal. We, at Snapdeal, never request our customers for unsolicited financial information or advance payments in exchange for rewards. Moreover, all our offers are published and available only through our website and mobile apps."

Beware people... Don't receive any unknown calls... and act on messages on unknown sources... This is true.... A day two or two calls from unknown nos and messages about winning a lottery and two days back I received a message saying my mob no has got online transfer of rs. 3,500/- furnish the details and get money. Today one unknown no called twice. When I checked that number under true caller.....to my surprise It's showing call from fake bank. What's this fake bank?? In the evening, one whatsapp call saying that the caller is calling from Mumbai from Jio customer care. Owner of Jio selected some numbers to participate in KBC. ..you need to furnish the details. I said all the details are there in Jio office... Please hold on, I will confirm the same from my friend who is a manager in reliance in Mumbai. He is saying OK confirm and then call me back.... Background of his screen had big JIO screen in red. It's really become nuisance. Why cyber police, concerned network centres can't investigate and catch them. When Sims are issued based on aadhar Card... How such things are happening... Very shocking. Who furnishes our nos though we are very careful in giving to others. Government should make a note of it...

Funniest thing is the number which we give for the documents ....for bank/gas/ration Card etc etc etc..such number only will be getting the calls/messages. Many a times Restaurants/online deliveries/business houses have our nos and they send offers or introduction of their business. Then who is leaking the privacy?
