Bengaluru, Oct 10: State government had introduced Vidyagama scheme as the schools could not be opened due to coronavirus pandemic. However, opposition political parties of the state had verbally attacked the ruling BJP saying that the coronavirus is spreading more rapidly due to this scheme. The ruling government, which at last has woken up after repeated protests of opposition parties and parents, has decided to stop the scheme temporarily.

Primary and secondary education minister S Suresh Kumar has given clarification in this regard and has said that he has given instructions to chief secretary of education department in order to stop the scheme temporarily.

Chief minister (CM) B S Yediyurappa had instructed minister Suresh Kumar to stop Vidyagama scheme as there were fierce protests. This scheme is dropped due to the instructions of the CM. Till the district-wise statistics are not received and their analysis is not completed, the scheme is withheld. Many leaders including former CMs H D Kumaraswamy, Siddaramaiah and KPCC president D K Shivakumar had opposed the Vidyagama scheme.

H D Kumaraswamy had warned the ruling BJP government through a tweet that he will hold day-night protest against the ruling BJP government's uncivilized, shameless decision of Vidyagama scheme, if the same is not stopped by Monday, October 12. Within few hours of Kumaraswamy's tweet, the ruling BJP government has taken out an order stopping the Vidyagama scheme.

Speaking on the subject, minister Suresh Kumar said, "I have noticed the opinions expressed in certain sections of the society and political circles on the Vidyagama scheme that was introduced. This scheme was introduced keeping in mind the wellbeing of children of lower strata of the society, who are financially poor."

Instead of conducting the classes in un sanitised Bus stands, grounds or unsafe houses, hall better to be done in schools only. I do not know whether this is vidyagama or vidya damana!
Government can provide the economically weak students either smart phones or laptop which can be procured on rental basis for the time being. People like Lions, Rotary or charity organisation can help the poor students by giving their old smartphones or new one if their budget permits.

What was is suresh kumar thinking? He says it's dangerous to go to schools batchwise, but it's okay to do classes by sitting in verandas of people's houses where there's hardly any space. These vidyagama sessions can be done in schools where there is more space. At present teachers have to beg strangers to lend their terraces to conduct classes. Suresh kumar lacks decision making capacity.
