Mangaluru: District administration allows tiger dance performance in temple premises during Dasara

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (ANK)

Mangaluru, Oct 14: Deputy commissioner (DC) Dr K V Rajendra granted permission for troupes to perform tiger dance within temple premises during Dasara with protocols to be followed.

The decision was taken during the meeting of district religious parishad on Tuesday October 13. Tiger dance can be performed in the temple premises. Only 10 members can perform in each troupe as part of offering. The temple administrative board should take responsibility of maintaining social distancing norms and sanitizer facility during the process. If any violation of rules or any untoward incident takes places, action will be taken against the temple administrative board.

Tiger dance performance is completely restricted outside the temple premises and in public places. Bursting of crackers is also not permitted.

It may be recalled, the district administration had imposed restriction on tiger dance due to Covid pandemic during Dasara. Understanding the sentiments of public, Daijiworld conducted a campaign demanding to allow tiger troupes to perform during Dasara celebration. Several organisation showed disappointment over the decision of the district administration and had submitted memorandum to the deputy commissioner demanding permission for tiger dance performance.

Mangaluru Dasara has special recognition after Mysuru Dasara. The uniqueness of Mangaluru Dasara is the tiger dance which lit up the celebration. Many devotees across the state and other states arrive to Mangaluru to witness Dasara and tiger dance.

Mangaluru Dasara is incomplete without Tiger dance troupe performing. It is an emotion and culture of Tulunadu where several troupes are closely associated with Mangaluru Dasara. Those involved in tiger dance mostly do it as an offering to God.

Now after the decision taken by the deputy commissioner, it is a sigh of relief for the public to see tiger dance troupes performing during Dasara.

Let the pilivesha performers ensure that they abstain from alcohol when dancing in Temple premises.
Usually they load themselves in order to use their feet to match the beats of the drums.

Tradition has to be followed for sure, but under guidance of Covid 19 restrictions. If there are no devotees and spectators to watch, it is demoralizing the performing troupe. So Temple authorities could think of a live telecast of these Tiger dances, so that we all can enjoy the beauty of our Culture and Tradition.
In these times when people have serious concerns about financial conditions of almost all families, this low key affair is the best to happen. Revenue loss to the economy of the city is consequential part of this situation, but then our lives are more important than revenue.
May almighty Bless all those involved in these celebrations.

Jossey, We cannot simply believe in God and break or ignore all the safety protocol imposed by government authorities. Let all of us first follow the guidelines imposed and also let us keep our faith and trust and pray to God to protect us from the dangers of this deadly virus. Even best of treatment available in the world is not working when the virus enters the body there by demolishing all the vital organs of the people. (especially elders and sick people)
