Kundapur, Nov 1: "The necessity of preserving 'Nammathana' in the midst of globalization, love of all languages and protection of our language, is more in the present time. In addition to knowing the world, the responsibility of preserving and nurturing Janapada is on us," said K Raju, assistant commissioner of Kundapur sub division.
Raju was speaking after hoisting the flag on the occasion of Kannada Rajyotsava Day celebration at the Gandhi Maidan on Sunday November 1.
Addressing the gathering, Raju further said, "Though there is difference in regional variety, accent of language, culture, tradition, food and celebration, the language that is close to our heart is one and that is Kannada. The achievement of Karunadu is unique in all the fields. Use of Kannada language in our everyday dealing and celebrations if the greatest service to our mother tongue."
Speaking on the occasion, taluk panchayat president Indira Shetty, who presided over the function said, "In addition to remembering the eminent personalities who have strived for the unification of Karunadu and also served the Kannada language and land, it is good that people, who have achieved glory in various fields and brought laurels to Karunadu, are honoured on the occasion.
Chief officer of town municipality Gopalakrishna Shetty, former vice president Rajesh Kaveri, Vijaya S Poojari, members Devaki Sannaiah, Prabhakar V, Sridhar Sheregar, youth service and sports officer Kusumakar Shetty, assistant director of social welfare department Raghavendra Varnekar, taluk level officials, department personnel, people representatives and teachers were present.
Due to Covid-19 restrictions, there was no march past. Only police force and home guards saluted the flag under the leadership of Kundapur city station officer Sadashiva Gavaroji.
Laptops were distributed to Dhanyashree Shetty and Prashanth of Siddapura government high school and Pannaga Mayya of Kundapur board school, who did commendable achievement in Kannada medium.
Arun Kumar Shetty, Kundapur zonal education officer welcomed the gathering. Taluk panchayat executive officer Keshav Shettigar rendered vote of thanks. The programme was compered by teacher Chandrashekhar Beejadi.
